clk 320 cdi
As the title says, I'm going to look at the above car in the morning, I know very little about these cars
Can anyone give me a couple of pointers as in what to look for
Its done around 110k last serviced by MB at 83k, supposedly mint cond
Are there any common faults on these to look for?
I'll check the obvious, clean oil and water, electric pack function etc
What are the gear boxes like,my last car was an 05 rangey and I put 2 boxes in that!
Any help/info that you could give a MB virgin would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Nick

Look they have a few common faults. But if all the electrics work fine, the suspension and steering feels good on road test, and the engine and box feels good then don't worry too much. Make sure you can start it up from cold and check for any rattling on initial start up!!!!!!! This is important. A slightly jerky downshift coming down from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st is ok and can usually be cured. But harsh downshifts and upshifts in the lower range could mean transmission trouble so beware!!!!!
Generally the face lifted 211 e class is a very good car. So good luck and hope its a good one :thumb:

Thanks for the reply, will post back tomorrow with the outcome
Also what sort of money does MB charge for a service, I don't know what was done on the last service (forgot to ask) at 83k, so don't know whats required now 110k

They charge plenty although they often do good deals. There are other options though ;)

83k to 110k is quite a gap between services.

I make it 27k!

When was this service carried out?

Way too long for an oil change I'd suggest. Would possibly be looking for another..

if the service history is not complete - I'd walk away, plenty out there - mercs can be money pits - find a good indy - main dealers just want your money, far too much of it, even for simple servicing.

As for the gear change in an autobox it should be "smooth as silk" up and down - gearbox should have oil change every 40k if not I'd walk away - also, i have learned from this forum, that the majority of main dealers appear to only change the autobox atf and not the atf from the torque converter - so job's only half done

Viewed the car this morning and it drove spot on, gear changes up and down like velvet, excellent condition etc etc
Only had one key though, and I assume these are extortionate to replace?
Managed to negotiate quite a bit off and its having a full and thorough service and check tomorrow morning by a friend of mine in his own independent garage
For the last 15yrs all I have driven is 4x4's and vans, apart from the lower driving position, I quite like it. Its considerably quicker than my last Rangey:devil:
Anyway thanks for your replies, I'm sure Ill have more questions in the future and if anyone has got any tips about upgrades etc that are worthwhile, please let me know

Regards
Nick

Keys.........£227 from main stealer, only way to go for peace of mind imho and most on here will agree. If you decide to order one you will need the V5 / ID / and possibly a recent utility bill for proof of current address. Take about a week for the dealer to get it.

One other thing which comes to mind, check that the running temperature reaches 85º - 90º fairly quickly. Mercs seem to suffer from failed thermostats and if it's not getting up to normal temperature it will affect the fuel consumption.

Enjoy your new toy :bannana:

It's always a good idea to have the car go on a star machine and..........
Any keys that are assigned to the eis that you do not have possession of need to be disabled!!!!!

Whats a star machine?

MB diagnostic computer system. All dealers and good independents will have one.
