Loud Boom/Humming Noise from Sprinter at 2000rpm.

I'd be surprised if such a noise was coming from the Turbo, Paul.
They rotate so fast, that I doubt that the low-frequency sound is coming from there.
Re the exhaust ......
If you get under the vehicle with the engine running, ask someone to hold a rag at the end of the tail pipe in order to pressurize the exhaust system.
The change in noise (or not) may help to diagnose where the noise is coming from.
Good Luck and Happy New Year.
John

Thanks John.

Happy New Year. :thumb:

Enza MB have checked the exhaust and say it is spot on.

I went to a local Kwikfit for a second opinion on yesterday but the van is too long and high for them to work on.

Next time I come to see you I may well have a rag and a crawling board with me. ;):D

The noise is something I'm determined eradicate.

Hi Ringway. Do you get any other noise with the drone, like a "gushing/whooshing" sound. Have you checked the rubber pipe from the turbo to the intercooler, this was the problem on our Vito and was difficult to see and get to underneath the engine, I dont know if this pipe on the sprinter is any easier see.

Thanks Rizzer,

No whooshing or gushing sounds.

I removed and checked the pipe from intercooler to turbo and it is okay.

I'll have to get the van up on a ramp and have a proper listen to the exhaust, although it is very quiet at the rear exit pipe.

Cheers,

Paul.

Van all-but frozen solid this morning (possibly -18 last night) and the hum/drone is greatly amplified for some reason. :dk:

Did you find what it was i have the same problem

I think so.

After crawling underneath the van, I'm pretty sure there is a hole in the downpipe.

I need to get the van up in the air on a lift to be sure and then change the pipe.

HTH.

Paul.

cheers i will have a look tomorrow
