Loving the snow.

Thankfully trip to heathrow and back was uneventful, but I was amazed at the speed some people were doing, especially when the fog came down and it all started getting a bit slippery. Still, I was glad I was in my Saab.

Great to have wifey back!

I think people lack imagination and cannot picture the consequences and heightened risk of getting it wrong in adverse driving conditions.

That last photo looks just like the view out of my window and I was quite surprised that with normal tyres on, everything was just fine.

It started, stopped and went round corners just like any other day.

Maybe those BMW drivers have made us Merc drivers paranoid

Likewise - including the neighbour who bought a 4x4 after last winter's snow. Covered about 100 miles Saturday night / Sunday with no problem - and the lease company won't give us winter tyres (but it makes for a great excuse, as two or three of my guys have done today...).

There are two main issues - most don't know how to drive in more severe winter conditions, and most don't know when to call it a day. Having observed some winter testing in North America (and covered a few miles too) I like to think I'm reasonably assured when I am driving in snow, but I also know what my and my car's limitations are. The winter test teams are always checking the weather forecasts and make the call whether to go or not - and although 3 inches of snow should not be enough to force people off the road, it would seem that the majority of drivers cannot cope with it.
 
Hi all, I am new to this forum and wanted to ask advise on driving my W209 in the snow/ice.
My previous motor was an Omega, the winter option on the autobox locked out 1st gear which improved traction on pull away.
My W209 has M/S/C option so stuck it M hoping to flip to 2nd to pull away (loving the F1 paddles BTW). Unfortunately due to revs it seems this isn't possible.
Is this possible to do or can C option cope with the ESP in slippery conditions on pull away.
Any advise appreciated

C locks out 1st gear so similar to your Omega.

If you're really struggling, switch off ESP until you get going again.

Editted to add: If you're at stand still, put in in M mode and select 2, then I think it will still start in first gear, but will not change up to third, in the same way your Omega would if you selected 2 on the lever.

Hitman that steer you gave me on the winter tyres was spot on. Has loads of fun today with the Dunlop winter sports on. Went out early doors to test them on gradients, stopping, breaking and then hooligan tactics.

Yes the Dunlop Winter Sports are very good :thumb:

I would - I've lived in and experienced it, and it was great. Don't mind the sun and heat for a couple of weeks, but find it oppresive after that.
