Lowering W202...special tool needed?

Hi im in Torbay Devon. i just spoke to a garage who specialises in mercs and he said "if you wanted a lower car you should of bought a sport and not a classic!" then said he only fits genuin parts that he supplys and lowering my car would cause nothing but problems!

so, im going to ring around a few garages to see if i can get someone to the job, if not ill have to have a go myself.

Sy.

wow sounds like a BMW garage to me.... it wont cause any problems and the sports arnt even that low tbh... i wouldn't worry about the garage being a merc specialist tbh this is a easy job to sombody with the right tools any garage should be able to do it..

yea the guy wasn't to helpful lol,

iv just spoke to a garage and they said they'd have a go, £50ph labour, he said the rear will take about an hour and he's not sure about the front as he's not sure of the setup, i explained the setup on the front and he sounded puzzled which leads me to believe he's not worked on many Mercs before!
Maybe i should ring a few more garages! lol

Well the likelihood is the OP will be needing to take the spring on and off a few times to play with spring pad heights and then it would need 4 wheel alignment etc so in this respect the job is a little more involved than just swapping springs.

I can see where the specialist might be reluctant to get involved unless the customer was fully aware of what was involved and the likely costs of doing the job properly.

I wouldn't want to just fit and forget either if it were my workshop.

Yeah thats true, its no 5 minute job. does take a bit of playing about as said, along with everything else.
We have a vehicle repair shop at home, so deal with all sorts, and have seen all sorts of springs fly round the garage, not to metion breaking 2 windows and several flu tube lights in 1 go! (very scary! everyone hit the deck!) its certainly made easy(ier) with a proper floor standing spring compressor. so my point being, it takes a while to get the spring sitting right in the compressor but by all means possible (and safe, with the right tools)

stay safe! you only get one face
