First I would like to say HELLO to everyone because I'm new here:)
I've got a question about M117 engine. Looks like I need to change a valve seals in it and I would like to do it without taking the heads off. I need a proper valve spring compressor. Can you please recommend which one will be the best for this particular job? I heard it is a common problem of those engines. Thank you.

take a look at my threads, if you can. Dieselman gave me some great advice, even with photos, when i was about to do mine.

send DM a mail. I'm sure he'll tell you. He's a star. You'll also need a way of holding the valve in place so they dont fall down. I was going to opt for the old nylon rope trick as i'm a bit third world and didn't want to cough up for the air compressor. Personally i prefered the other type of valve spring compressor with the screw handle which i managed to pick up here for only 20 bucks.

The valves won't fall out. Just get the pistons for the individual cylinders on tdc by looking at the cam lobes.

Thanks a lot. Can anyone tell me how can I contact Dieselman please. I would like to send him an e mail. Thanks

I think you need 30 posts to send a mail by this site. I'm sure he will appreciate the thanks though

just click on his page and then go to the menu which says 'send private mesage'

No need for a mail, just keep your queries on the forum, it's what the boards are for. :)

Thanks Dieselman. Can you give me some advice about those valve spring compressors please. Which one will be suitable to use for M 117 engine? Thanks

Hi there! I am still looking for the answer about valve spring compressor in my SEC 500 (M 117 engine). Is this one OK for the job?

Yes. I think that is the best type as it compresses the spring without putting any pressure on the valve stem or head.

Hi Everyone! Just to let you know I did change the valve seals in my SEC 500 without taking the heads off:bannana:. Took us two days to do it but it was worth it. No smoke at all now. Thank you all for help!!!
