Currently have a 300SL-24 that I have not used for 3 weeks or so.

Car is low mileage and drives beautifully....having just used the car this weekend the oil pressure gauge in the dash is behaving oddly...Rather than sitting a 3 where it normally does, its sitting at 2 when driving and will drop back to 1.5 at idle. Sometimes will shoot up to 3 whilst driving and then drop back down to 2.

It would appear that its the gauge itself or could it be the oil pressure sensor on the engine as I have heard that they can play up....if so where is it located and how easy is it to change?

If its not this, can the gauge in the dash play up and if so whats the remedy?

have you checked oil level?

not sure exactly where the sender is, but its definately an issue that pops up now and then...

not very likely to be the cluster IMO...

It will be the sender unit. Located on the rear of the block above the starter motor. 22mm spanner removes it and a new one costs £28. It will take you about 25 mins to change as access is rather limited. Best done from under the car.

Thanks guys...super fast replys to my request.

Oil level was checked and was as it should be
