Isn't the engine cover p[lastic?
Or are you talking about painting the engine block under the cover?

Id advise trying it on a spare cover HERE

No doubt it will go wrong & could effect the resell value of your car...

As it's plastic, I wouldn't bother painting it. Why not try to find one from a breaker, I think they're fairly expensive new (from Mercedes). Keep an eye out on ebay they do come up from time to time (as shown by KillerHERTZ).

I would advise against power-washing the engine bay. Too many electical modules to play up. How about some brush on engine cleaner? You probably need to rinse it off still but it's got to be better than jet washing.

why is it so complicated to clean a damn engine bay lol....

Personally I would use brake cleaner on your engine. Used it on my old discovery which looked scabby around the injectors/rocker cover area, came up a treat! Its about £2 a tin from ECP or you can get a 5litre can from GSF for £7 odd and put it in a spray bottle.
