The ML63 has gone on to seven cylinders and lit the CEL. My trusty iCarsoft reveals the coil on no. 2 is duff; not a problem, MB Beaconsfield will have one in for me to collect tomorrow, and half an hour's work at most will see it sorted. (The plugs were changed in September 2023 on 102K miles by MD Motorcare Wirral, an MB specialist, where the car had been looked after for the previous nine years before I bought it, and in fact the information I got from them persuaded me that it wasn't likely to be a highly-polished mechanical turd).

However, Googling found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/AMG/commen...minder_for_m156_owners_change_your/?rdt=47519

I would normally look for a replacement from MB or Bosch, but if the OE coil packs are made by Delphi, it seems to me it might be a good idea to get a couple of Delphi ones and keep them in the car as spares. One having already gone, it wouldn't surprise me if another did, and it wouldn't leave me stranded ten thousand light years from home if that happened.

Does different coil pack makes cause problems for the car ? Or should they all be the same make .

Well, in this case they will be anyway, as Delphi make the OE ones, but I'd normally want something from Bosch or in an MB box to be sure of the quality. Anything that works would be fine, but something cheap and cheerful from China might not work for long, and just on general principles I wouldn't want to drive a car far with one misfiring cylinder. A bulb out is one thing, a cylinder out quite another.

Same Delphi part number on the 2007 and the new one, but several MB part numbers for the same thing over eighteen years :dk:.

It runs fine now. In fact, I could persuade myself it revs a touch faster and more freely than before, but I can't see how; it's definitely never had a misfire before in my ownership, or at least, not one I've detected, nor a CEL or fault code. :dk: :dk:

It's tremendous how a none liking 156 owner is now really enjoying such an engined vehicle. It speaks volumes 😁. Something about it isn't there!

Are you heavy footed with it or do you Miss Daisy it along?

I like it fine. As I expected, the torque characteristics of an M113K or M157 would be better suited to the ML, but it doesn't disappoint; when the need arises, it will still see off most things, in a straight line at least, when (occasionally; I'm getting old...) the red mist comes down. It's nice to drive.

I don't hang about, but mostly more Miss Daisy these days; it's quite serene and civilised, really, not nearly in-your-face as much as most AMGs (who mentioned C63s...), though the exhaust note even at idle tells you there's something decent under the bonnet. As I said, I'm getting old...

I knew it wouldn't disappoint, glad your enjoying it. Yeah I agree with you with the getting old part too. I dont give mine to much stick nowadays. But its handy to have if one gets the urge.
