This is a quote from MBOF, by a longstanding member with a significant number of posts (in other words, not an agitator).
The actual source and therefore the reliability (no pun intended) of the content remains unverified.

I post it for information/interest only:

My mate popped in today for a coffee. He is a tech in a dealership reasonably local to me. I'm not going to be any more specific than that. He let slip a couple of tasty snippets of info to me today. One was about some allegedly incorrect machining of pistons on M156 v8 engines. They have one in using around 4 litres of oil per 1000 miles, on an engine with less than 10k miles on the clock. A box of eight pistons arrived from Merc with gaskets and seals for them to fit. Pistons in excess of £600 each according to him!
The other titbit was about the new AMG 5.5 biturbo. They have two in that knock heavily from cold, but oil pressure good. Awaiting instructions from Germany. He reckons it'll be new engines in those.

Thanks John .
Had a bit of a worry on mine today , started from cold ,I heard what seemed to me a 'dry tappet noise' coming from the O/s cyl head area ... Oil fine, flipped/revved the engine slightly -no different .

Finally disappeared after a run . Never heard it before hoping it was just a one off ... Not that cold today tho!

I think I need along run in it ... Sort out a small Gtg somewhere with good food , company & cars!
