M272 fault diagnosis

On my M.272 I tend to spray some silicon on the seal just before fitting the air box. This really helps. I had a coil pack failure about 15 months ago and the Greenflag gorilla managed to dislodge the MAF from the elbow when refitting the air box. This also threw up a fault code a few days later.

I probably shouldn't tempt fate but all is still OK here, so hopefully the STAR adaptation has stuck after all. 500+ miles and a lot of start/stop cycles since the repair.

I knew I shouldn't have tempted fate. CEL came back on a few days ago with the same code. It's going back to the garage in a couple of weeks for a service and MOT so I'll get them to take another look. Getting pretty fed up with this now, especially as there are no symptoms. If it wasn't for the CEL I'd have no idea there was an issue.

I did see on another merc forum that someone had a similar problem. They changed the solenoid but the code kept coming back. They were advised to change the other 3 solenoids, as if it was a mix of old and new it could still cause the problem. Does this sound right? This would apply to me. Not sure how this relates to the previous repair of replacing the cam sprocket/gear and actuator, if at all.

Sorry to hear that Anderoo. The total lack of symptoms is frustrating and like you, had my CEL light not been on I'd have been none the wiser.

Similarly my "fix" of changing the crank position sensor didn't help and after a few more days the light came on. Then I also discovered my fumes issue was oil dripping on to the cat afterall and wasn't exhaust fumes. It wasn't from the camshaft plugs however but was instead from the vacuum pump that sits alongside those plugs and access is challenging.

I was all ready to sort these issues again but a great looking W204 turned up so I traded in the C350 against it. I really wanted to get to the bottom of these faults but with a full time job, a young family and limited opportunities to either do the work myself or get the car to somebody to do it for me meant I took the easy option.

Do let us know if you get it resolved - I'm very keen to understand what it might be.
