W124 E320 twin turbo coupe, E220 Coupe
Just wondering if anyone here has tested these 2 cars against eachother,or would know what the outcome would be,between an E36 M3 EVO convertible, and a 320 twin turbo turbo technics coupe??

I've got a friend with an E36 M3 Evo Coupe. Now does anyone fancy letting me borrow their E320 TT Coupe? ;)

Seriously though, it's a great question.
M3 Evo:
3.2 24v i6
321bhp
I think the 0-60 was around 5.4, IIRC

E320:
3.2 24v i6 Twin Turbo
350ish bhp
0-60 was quoted at 5.7 wasn't it?

Can anyone quote the torque for both cars?

Off the mark, the manual transmission should mean the M3 gain an initial 1/2 car or full car length advantage, but I wreckon the TT should claw it back well before naughty triple digits. Of course, this just my speculation though.

Like I say, good question. Maybe one day we could run some MBClub shootouts.
Talbir's Hammer vs an E63 AMG anyone?

Darren

Darren

Those figures you quoted are for the coupe M3 Evo right? As far as i know, the convertible is alot heavier,so must be slower?

My mate is buying one next month, and he is 100% confident that his M3 would beat my car from stop start and rolling start...

Im yet to fix my turbo's, but i think once everything is in good working order, I should give him a good race (not up to 3digit speed)..and we shall see what happens, I've looked everywhere on the net, these 2 cars have not yet been tested against eachother, so i might video it 2:))

You are right about the manual transmission giving it a full car advantage, its 6 gears as well, but i think i have an advantage after 2nd gear.

I'd like to see that race between Talbir's hammer and an E63 AMG, GTG at santa pod?? lol
or
E320 TT vs 500E?? ok im gettin excited.

If it's not up to 3 digit speeds then I don't think there will be much in it, the auto will do well mainly as it will be far easier to achieve those times.

I'm behind until 3rd gear in my Barge versus an E46 M3 and after that I ease up beside and then past.

You need a large difference in power for it to be noticeable on the road.

Dave!

M3 Evo had 269lb/ft and was quite peaky. I reckon the Merc with an auto box and turbo delivery would win.

All bmw drivers seem to think when they are buying their cars that no one else will be able to touch them... might be a bad generalisation but its certainly the way with the circles i'm in. :o

When i bought the 230k, i had a mate of mine who constantly kept putting my car down, saying it a was a sh1tbox with no speed, and a pathetic excuse for a manual transmission, and that his 330ci would 'walk' me. Oh how wrong he was... and oh the excuses that followed... ;)

But on a more serious note, i think that the E320 twin turbo would destroy the M3 from a roll providing u slot your car into the right gear when rolling, dont let the gearbox do the kickdown for you because that will just make you lose time. Off the line the m3 might get some sort of advantage but i think that would quickly disappear due to the merc's superior torque and power.
An E320 TT vs a 500E is something i'd love to see

I think the 0-60 would be close. 0-100 and rolling start definitely the 320TT.
The BMW has less torque and it's all higher up the rev range. It also weighs more (especially if the driver is a nightclub bouncer  )

Well i'll be down Santa Pod in the summer so any 320T wanting a fun run down the strip just come along.

No idea on dates yet as I have no idea where i'll be working.

Or use the wonders of Google and see if a 320T video is available....

Here is my car for comparison....

Ignore the Brabus modification rubbish, usual internet winnets.

That could be a fun excuse for a get-together. :bannana:

Even though my car is really slow, i'd come!

your 100km/h to 200km/h time is impressive. I'm guessing the 500E is fairly light? 1400kg-ish?

Totally agree with all of the above I have had the E36 M3 EVO and got shut of it after 8 months, it may appear quick on paper but it can't get the power down onto the Tarmac, E320 TT would bury an M3 Evo no question, BMW might have the legs to start but get it mid range and it would disappear in the rear view mirror of the TT.

Also M3 appalling in the wet so hope you are good at controlling those power slides, spun mine twice on a wet roundabout, once a 180 and the other a full 360 makes for interesting driving

"The ultimate driving Machine"? The uncontrollable driving machine more like:D

When you 360'd it , did the car come to a stop or did you just carry on , cool as custard , like nothing had happened

I've 180'd in my car when i first bought it, because i underestimated its power in the wet and one of the tyres i had on at the time was illegal (dealer bought a new one for me after that incident), ended up on the other side of the road, thank god it was empty.

I was shook but i continued on... like nothing had happened... lol ;)

Well I could say I used my racing skills to full advantage and carried on cool as a cucumber ........... but I'd be lying.:D

I must confess it broke away so quickly that it caught me a bit by suprise, fortunately the exit was clear and I missed all the street furniture and came to a stop at a bit of a funny angle in the road, with the missus beating me up and calling me all the names under the sun:crazy:

It did teach me one thing though " Never buy a BMW" and I never have.

Sorry, a bit O/T

I can split you guys down the middle....I did a 270 not long after I bought my car. Again a wet round about, also very unsure of the car's power and being a younger, less experienced. Car's back end went one way, over corrected and spun the other way, off an exit of the roundabout, facing the wrong the way.
I ended up leaving a "question mark" style tyre mark and just sat there for a minute, petrified. God know how I missed the road side furniture!
Needless to say I learnt by my mistake! :o

Back on Topic:
The idea of a 500E vs a 320 TT is a good one!
On youtube, I remember seeing footage of a W124 500E vs. a W211 E350. And the E350 won!

Darren

With a tank of fuel it's 1800 kilos without passengers.

With 2 people in the front seats it's nigh on 2 tons with a tank of fuel.

Dave!

The E320 is a couple of hundred kilos lighter then. Should be a fair fight :D

I'll duck down behind the wheel and bounce up and down if you get ahead :o

It seems like u were getting from 100km/h-200km/h in 12-13 secs. The C43 AMG is a 1600 (1700kg at most) car and it was 306 bhp, and it goes from 100-200km/h in about 15-16.

I just dont get it!

Didnt the 500E get treatment from porsche to make it lighter?
