hello there fellow members.i have a 55 plate clk 270 cdi with 90k on the clock.i have never taken off the maf sensor to clean it.will it be a due a clean or is it something you dont do unless theres a problem ?
If it's not causing a problem then my advice would be to leave it alone.
Cleaning the MAF rarely makes any differance if they are playing up and if it's ok,
then there's the possibility of causing it to malfunction .
FWIW i had mine changed on my W210 recently and it had failed
after 140 K miles , cleaning did nothing.

On my 210, the MAF was dirty and I didn't have any MAF cleaner, so I gently cleaned with a cotton bud and as the dirt started to come away I probed a little more than I should have done. It was worse when I put it back on the car. They are delicate things. I bought a new MAF the next day.
