Main Dealer Or approved MB garage for servicing?? HELP!

When comparing service pricing you need the garage to confirm exactly what is included in the service price. The reason being that there are additional items which are age and/or mileage dependent which the main dealer will definitely include, Mercedes specialists might include, and all-marque garages definitely won’t include.

Excluding those additional items makes the price look appear much more competitive than it really is! Additional items can be a significant part of the total service cost, especially in those services which require spark plug and automatic transmission fluid changes. There will occasionally be a service with no additional items due too, but they really are occasional.

Use the Mercedes ESS to find out exactly what is due on your specific car at your mileage, and post the list of additional items in this thread for comment.

Also get online quotes from a variety of main dealers using the online quite tool. The difference in pricing between neighbouring main dealers can be dramatic so try every main dealer you are prepared to travel to.

Again post the results for members to share their thoughts.
Thanks for this !

Another option which I do is buy the parts from MB Edinburgh and pay labour only I've just booked my c63 in for a B service including plugs, air filters, brake fluid etc £264 all in
The service kit cost me £160

Ok all I've just got some more information

Spoke to MB today and on register it's only had 1 service last year from a non main dealer and prior to this no records of a service!!!

So I spoke to the guys I bought the car from and basically the 1st owner had the car 3 years abd hardly drove it had it as a garage queen and didn't do a service from the main dealer as he didn't even clock 2000 miles a year so he bought parts from MB and serviced it him self (he's a car collector and serviced all his cars ferrari and Porsche included)

MB said to me to bring the car up to date and to ensure everything has done spark plugs filters break fluid ect and service I've now been told it will be £1,198.00 now is it worth me starting a history with the main dealers?!

They said if I take out a service plan becuase the spark plugs break fluid and filters are things that should've been done already it will NOT be covered by the plan and I'd need to pay for it the only time it would be covered if the time of the anniversary of those parts needed changing came up while I had a service plan!

Is it still worth it ??

You bought it privately, then? If it was from a trader, and you were told it had a full service history, it was mis-sold and you would have a good chance of legal recompense, but with a private sale, you would have to prove that you were actually misled to have any chance.

At the end of the day, you will never have a full and correct main dealer service history, because the first couple of services were missed. Worst case, it wasn't serviced at all, but with only 5000 miles on the clock, that won't have done it any harm, assuming the mileage is correct.

The whole thing smells fishy to me, but I have a nasty suspicious mind... How do you know the first owner serviced it himself? How much do you trust the guys you bought it from?

That’s right, the service contract will only cover what is due. What’s the date of first registration and mileage?

....is it worth me starting a history with the main dealers?

No. Because the car will never have 'full main dealer service history'. You can't undo the past. In fact, it won't even have 'full service history'. So you'll be wasting your money at the dealer. Just get it serviced at an independent specialist.

October 2017 and current mileage 16,500

I bought it of a very highly rated dealer who sold the car on behalf of the private individual due to the price of the car I wouldn't have ever gone and paid that kind of money upfront to a private seller

The dealers are very well known dealers and didn't think twice about not trusting them to be honest

Last service on the car recorded that MB can see on the system is around the 10,000 miles mark in November 2021

It had been to dealers for a few recalls and some warrantee work (centre console buttons replacement)

This is what I was told over the phone by MB today

Fair enough; if the dealers did not mislead you about the service history, and if they're as good as you say, they didn't, you have no comeback there.

I'd use a good independent MB specialist for servicing from now on, including what's needed to cover what has been missed, unless you particularly want the extended warranty.

So you have an E63S MY 2018 with only one recorded service over the first 4 years of the car's life, and it was done any an indie with access to the MB DSB.

This will definitely affect resell value, but that can't be helped now.

No point in ploughing money into dealer service, just use a good independent specialist.

You purchased a not cheap Amg without checking the history - Wow!

Personally I wouldn't touch an AMG without a full up to date service history but that's me mine has done 1k miles since its last service tbh if you buy the parts yourself it's not actually expense
Ie spark plugs cost £40,oil £60 air filters £60 +2hrs labour at £132ph
Get it all upto date and enjoy it 😀

I bought my W211 E280 from Mercland in Nuneaton (not too far away).
Mercland are well-known on this forum.
I had one experience of their after-sales service work and was highly-satisfied with the service I received.

It's not about not checking I would've expected it to have a full service history and was advertised as having service history it's only when I've gone back after finding out the information I went back to the dealers to ask them..

Personally I don't even know of a way of checking for service history without actually ringing up MB them selfs as it's a digital

Yes it definitely will effect it didn't realise this at the time of purchasing guess just was very excited of finding the exact car I wanted qoth the correct spec!

Resell is what I was hoping on as its an Edition1 I thought it would hold good value and the aim was to get into a AMG GT63 after 1 year now I'm in a pickle and slightly worried about how much value I'll end up losing!

It is what it is I guess nothing can be done now 🤷 just have to suck it up and work harder to make back what I'll lose!! Shouldn't be to hard right ! LOL

Any time i had my car serviced at the dealers i was always given a printed paper copy of the service history , for my records , even though it was also stored digitally on their database.
