Sorry if this is in the wrong section...

Some uber bell sack prized my factory carbon fibre spoiler off my C63 PPP. I can't express my disgust in writing. £1,453.20 for a new one!

If anyone is offered one remotely near Manchester... let me know.

Conversely, if you have a spoiler like this, make sure you sleep in your car. Have also previously been targeted for the dimming wing mirror glass on another C Class (£386 retail) so watch out...!

Gutted to hear that, if its real Carbon Fibre & only glued on I can see this becoming a common crime.

Was the bootlid damaged aswell?

Id replace it with an aftermarket one that had been Hyro-dipped - about £120 all in. - looks the same and wont cost the earth to replace.

I'm getting CCTV this week (lots of it) (not that it will help) and perhaps a 500,000 Volt electric fence around the car. Or lasers. Or tasers.

Do the hydro-dipped ones pass as CF? I've seen a couple of decent ones around the £400/500 mark and may get one of those for them to steal next week...

Meant to be good:

Would this not be worth claiming on the insurance ? Even if you've got a big excess , it surely is the way forward ?

I think I'm on an £850 excess, so with 5 years of increased premiums, it just doesn't make sense Howard.

Killerhertz -that actually looks good!!

Utter scum...

Where about in Manchester? I'll keep an eye out...

Have you trawled Gumtree, etc for one being offered?

(Will also keep a closer eye on my dimming mirror glass!)

CCTV only good if clearly visible and acts as deterent. Not much help to see after the event that it was taken by some 'yoof' in a hoodie.

The CCTV does not need to actually work, just look menacing and have a red flashing LED....

i-Conica - I'm in North Manchester.

When the wing mirror glass was stolen, the police said that we were the 7th person from our road to report their Merc glass missing that morning!!

Absolute scum. GET A F***ING JOB.

Rashman - You not think they are any good??

Markjay - I did insist I have one with visible LEDs. I believe you can just make it out in the dark. Agree with you - all I will get is a video of someone nicking my hard earned!

Firstly, I'm sorry to hear about your incident bud. :(
Little ba$tards

As for dipped CF.... nothing looks like CF.... except CF.

Sorry to hear that. Dual channel dashcam with good power management and motion activated parking recording will provide a picture of a barsteward ... not that it makes it any less disgusting.

GLK - you mean a 2nd cam in the rear window?

You think tearing a spoiler off would be enough to trigger it?

Cheers Rashman. It's a terrible shame some people stoop this low. CCTV is motion activated and will alert me. I will be waiting in the wings with... something.

He will probably sell it to someone with a C180 or a Nova for £20. So if you see a mismatched CF spoiler...

I feel for you. I have been the victim of similar crime in the past, and your right, words can't express the anger! I once woke up to find some lovely person had run a key, from the front of the car by the headlights, allllll the way to the back. :(

That's gutting :(
Which one is it. Mine has this one but I don't know which model of spoiler it is.

James - horrible crime, isn't it? You should NEVER mess with a man's car!

Costs so much money to sort it out.

R2D2 - Did that come with the car from new? I thought the carbon pack was only on the C63 or standard with the PP+?

Yes, dual channel ones have two cameras - front and rear. My next set will be like that, at the moment I just have two separate ones.

If configured to record when parked, the motion sensor will trigger it, so yes, definitely - any "significant" movement in front or back of the car (i.e. not a bird flying past 20yrds away). What needs to be looked at carefully is power management (minimum remaining voltage cut-off)*, motion sensor sensitivity and reduced frame rate - the latter two affect the amount of footage you end up with and it's quality.

*I had bad experience with one of these (PowerMagic Pro from Pittasoft), even though it was set for 12.1V cut-off I got a flat battery, so removed it completely. That was three years ago, and many modern dashcams have this function built-in and, apparently much more reliable nowadays.
