MB factory phone kit and 6310i functions

I have a 2004 E220 cdi with factory fitted car phone kit, set up for the 6310i. Phone works fine through the speakers etc., I can use the address book from the phone on the dashboard to select person to call. However, when an incoming call arrives, even if the number is in (both phone and SIM) memory address book, only the number shows not the name. If I watch the phone in it's cradle when this happens, the name is displayed on the phone display.
I have used my phone in a friends E270 cdi with the factory kit and the problem I have in my car does not repeat.

This leads me to believe the version of my car kit is not compatible with my phone but my dealer cannot answer this and keeps blaming my phone.

Has anyone else had this problem?

It is certainly strange that your phone works perfectly in a different E-class.

If the phone has never worked in your car, but consistantly works perfectly in other 211's then I think your dealer has some explaining to do.

Have you asked the dealer to try your telephone in another of their demonstrators?

Some cradles have been known to be defective. If it were your sim card then I would have thought the problem would repeat itself in other cars.

My telephone problem was a 'failure to receive signal'. This was indeed down to an older generation sim card in the 6310i.

if the phone book is duplicated on both sim card and phone it will i believe
only display the incoming callers number


try adding a new name and number to the sim card only (this is accessed
by the phone interface first)
and see if it is displayed

I note you are on line, so a quick question.

Why should they have to put a new name in, if the phone works perfectly on other E-class?

I don't doubt he is correct, but I am still curious as to why the phone wotrks perfectly in all the other vehicles. Surely this points to a defect in the cradle.

does your telephone holder have a cable coming from it or is it one of the newer u.h.i versions
also check mobiles software version by pressing *##0000# or*#0000#
cant quite remember but phones software should be at least v5.25 if it
isnt get a phone shop to update
also different vehicles can be running on different software levels different kits
etc

I have checked the software on the phone, and mine is 5.4.
Cradle is attached inside the armrest and to the control unit by 2 'curly' flexs.
I am sure it a problem with the version of the control unit software. I will put this to the dealer.

Yes exactly the same problem with C270 and MB installed kit, I've had it since new. MB tested it 3 times with no joy, its between orange and MB who to blame. Have you tried entering the phone numbers manually in the 6310? rather than using a PC sync, its the only way I can get ID's on the screen, I suspect its something to do with the memory allocation.

We manually put names and telephone numbers into the 6310i, then on incoming calls the names show up on the COMAND screen.

i was having the same problem with my new 2005 C class with UHI. The thing to remember is that the kit with the curly cord has a diferent maker than the one with the solid cradle.

I was using the 6310i cradle with a phone software version of 5.50 03/03/03

Becuse we have a stock of at least 5 6310i's i tried a few diferent versions of the software and as if by magic , found one that works fine every time

My findings are as follows

Works :

v 5.22 15/11/02
v 4.07 17/04/02

Doesnt work :

V 5.52 13/04/04
V 5.50 03/03/03
v 5.10 11/09/02


Anyone else wanna add versions of their 6310i's that work or don't work?

I note that squeezes in between the three that you found did not work.
