Hello all :)

Just bought a c class 180 2 ltr petrol auto with just 28 k miles on the clock its gorgeous, only broken down 4 times in 600 miles. Keeps coming up with the oil light and ESP light to follow. Main dealer dorchester cannot fix it. they changed oil sensor and fitted new battery and still no good. after the fix driving down M3 when engine becomes irratic feels like its trying to brake weird then oil light comes on creep on to the A31 then esp light comes on ( Message ) AA man turns off ESP control and make it to dorchester. Car now in main dealer but all they can do is scratch thier heads ! anyone got any ideas why the car keeps breaking down ? any suggestions greatly appreciated. the car is a x reg c 180.

Sounds like a wiring loom problem- Is it a W202 = M 111 engined car? You can tell from the chassis number at the base of the windscreen It will start WDB202**** The warning lights coming on may simply be a reflection that overall system voltage has dropped for some reason. Have they checked the engine earthing strap and other earth points?

must be oil leaking into ECU? Common issue on this model. When you say oil light is it oil low or oil high?

No oil high light (or message) on the petrol W203 - only the diesels have it?

At Olly's advice, I have recently fitted these:

This is a picture of the part (pic is from the Internet):

You can remove the camshaft position sensor connectors below to see if there's any trace of oil inside the connectors:

wow will pass on the information Oil into the ecu sounds feesable MB dorchester seem to think that it is a unit in the door that is causing the problem ???????????
flipping mystery these cars thank you again for your advice.

Ok ESP light seems ok now just the intermittent red oil light comes on garage still stumped ! No oin into the ecu but thanks for that. any other ideas people ?

Not sure about this. My W203 C240 Petrol was intermittently showing the Red Oil Overfill message. The engine then threw a rod straight through the bock (blocked oil gulley)

Are you saying that you see an "Oil Overfill" Red with a Beep?

Is this solution prevents damage to the ECU on the M271 engine as well? My father drives a C180K 2005. Would it be smart to fit those cables to his car?

they stop oil travelling up the cables into the ECU...

not a red overfill light just or level issue just visit workshop light garage have at as we speak and are just scratching thier heads if they fix it will let you all know thank you

I would be looking at a wiring loom issue. Rodent damage can cause this type of strange fault.

well interesting theory and quite acceptable ? However phone call from Mercedes Dorchester this morning informing me that my car had now broken down with thier top engineer in it !!! the ESP light had returned the oil light was on and also the engine management light had come on hoooray ! now at least they have some codes to work on, Also they have aked me to return the control unit which clearly had not fixed any problems for a full refund without having to ask them Well done MB dorchester. As a gambling man I bet that a new ECU will be fitted within the next few days. Perhaps we are getting there

Could anyone guide me where I could get these extension cable from please?
Thanks

From any MB dealer, the Part Number is here:

This is for the M271 engine, and you need two.

Many thanks Markjay.
