There are now many 4x4's around with 2 litre ish engines and wonder whether MB has missed a market by not putting a 2litre engine in the ML. The current crop of MB engines of that size certainly outperform the early 2.7 litre, and people do look at CO2 and road tax costs

ML 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC is a 2,143cc 4-pot?

I don't really bother too much about fuel consumption these days, I just like to get in and drive and as long as I`m getting somewhere near the quoted figures is good enough for me.

I must admit though, out of pure principal, I`m not sure I could ever bring myself to pay the band L or M VED rates.

Exactly how I feel! I've not really checked the actual fuel consumption of my SLK, but it feels about right at 40 ish as quoted on the computer. And the L and M road tax thing would gall me no end!

I feel your comments contradict slightly.... you have a diesel.

I really don't care about consumption or VED...... if I did I have bought the wrong car.

I do have a diesel but the reasons for that have nothing to do with fuel consumption so no contradiction at all really...

I also run a 1995 celica GT4 which isn`t the best on fuel.

Some people don't seem to be able to grasp that in some, if not many, cases diesels outperform petrol engines in many respects.

The 2.1 twin turbo 4 cylinder diesel was introduced in 2011 with the new W166 I believe?? They are now assembling them in Chakan, Pune India and Wanaherang, West Java. Indonesia via knockdown kits from Tuscaloosa, USA.
The Pope has indicated the next Merc ML Popemobile should be a hybrid.

Although within the Vatican city rumour has it he prefers to drive a 29 year old Renault 4. Evidently its what he drove in Argentina!
