Hi - new here but could do with some advice please.

We bought a B class on the MB used approved scheme 28 days ago and have had many problems with it since. We would like to return/exchange it under the 30day thingy. I have 2 questions relating to this though

1stly one problem has been that we put (unknowingly) some "contaminated petrol" in the car. MB cleared it out, charged us 987 for the pleasure. Esso have admitted the fault though and the claim is with their handlers right now. Question is - will the fact this has happened invalidated the 30day exchange promise?

2ndly, if it is not invalidated can anyone tell me if we need to return it to the dealer we bought it from or can it be any MB main dealer? We travelled a little way to buy and since it has broken down again this evening and will be returned to our local garage it would be far easier if we could return it there - not sure it'll make it back to the place we bought it!

Many thanks in advance for any advice anyone can offer

Becca

I think you will have to return it to the dealer you bought it from. It's an "exchange" plan so I don't think you will get your money back- just an equivalent car. Remember too it's a 1000 mile/ 30day policy-- which ever comes first! May help if they have a "more expensive" equivalent you could upgrade to with an additional cash adjustment from you of course.

Hmm, thanks Graeme, if so that is bad news as the 30days expires on Sunday and the car is currently not working at all. Wonder if we notify the garage we wish to exchange that'd be satisfactory given that the car is off the road and being towed to our local garage in the morning.
An exchange would be fine, I just have lost all faith in this car since this is the 4th time it's had to go to garage in the 30 days.

You need to get your exchange request to them in writing before the 30th day to be on the safe side. The only way to do this now I guess would be by a FAXED copy to the sales department of a dated official letter sent asap by recorded delivery? You should also ask for an acknowledgement of receipt of the FAX.
