Anyone else thinking this is a bit of a strange move? Bearing in mind that Honda will enter the new engine formula a year late (2015), it means McLaren will be using the new Mercedes engine for just one year, so a complete engine packaging redesign for each season - not the best way to build a championship winning package.

Also, if they wanted to move away from Mercedes, what about their own engine? Given the success of the Ricardo unit currently installed in the road cars, would that give the McLaren brand much more credibility - or is that a step too far, too soon ?

I think it's a completely different ball game designing & making chassis's compared to doing similar for an F1 engine.

I think it works well for both sides. A development year in 2014.

I suspect that Honda will be very strong with the new regulations. Their previous with McLaren is huge. No reason to think that their future will not be the same.

More of interest this week was the tyre announcements. An admission that the tyres are pants and will be changed THIS SEASON..

Re the tyres, the BBC site reckoned Pirelli will just reintroduce last years 'Hard' tyre as the new 'Hard' and the existing tyres will drop down one grade with the current 'Super Soft' disappearing.

They must be using Nankangs then :p

There is an irony in the thread that you refer too. In that it the Mercs that are destroying their expensive Pirellis faster than any other team out there.
