Hi

I have a 2014 X218 CLS. In the armrest there is a media interface cable port, and also a USB port.

Currently I have a thumb drive connected to the USB port with all my music on it which works just fine, however I am wondering what the point/benefit of the USB Media Interface cable is (Part No. A0018276704)

Can anyone offer any insight/advice into this?

TIA

Ade

I say so you can have 2 different sources of USB media connected if you like, one via the direct USB interface, and the other over the adaptor.

The media interface is useful for connecting an iPod which you can search through using the steering wheel buttons and display. Bit outdated these days but was still a thing back in 2014. I use mine in my 2010 a207 as it doesn’t have a2dp. Saying that I hardly use the iPod as I bought a little Bluetooth FM transmitter which works ok. MB as usual is fussy about what lead will work so check compatibility if you do decide to use the interface.
