Already tried my iPhone4 with iOS5 with the following:
1. Garmin nuvi 3790 via bluetooth;
2. BlueAnt headset (bluetooth);
3. My cheapo Xtrons* head unit via iPod interface (both the front connector and the one that goes from the back of the unit to glove compartment)
4. Xtrons via bluetooth (two iPhones actually)
Everything works fine, music streaming via bluetooth seems better, but that might be just my impression (I never use it that way anyway - just wanted to check every possible combination).
I did an upgrade - i.e. did not wipe out the phone first (saw a few people suggesting that - didn't see the point), so all the settings etc were preserved, including phone's 'name'. If you did the full wipe-out it might explain the fact that it's not recognised?

Thanks Dave. In time honoured fashion I rebooted the iPod and Media Interface recognises it again.

Whilst I haven't got around to updating the software on my phone (but I will!), the iPod on my phone isn't recognised through the media interface on my car. Admitedly through time constraints I am yet to have a handover on my car but should the iPod on my phone conncect okay? Interstingly I record downloads on the (excellent)TuneIn Radio app and they play fine.
