we have just aquired a lovely 2001 y reg mercedes c240 2.6 avantgarde, fully loaded with all the toys, all was fine until suddenly after about 4 miles the car started to get malfunction messages,

abs light came on
esp warning
and brake linings wearing

then display faulty?
the speedo then dropped to 0 then back to its current speed 60

on stopping i found that when pulling away the speedo didnt move and the auto box would not change gear, but as soon as the speedo started working again the gears came back ok, i noted i couldnt switch between sport and winter modes?

got it home, and the wife then jumped in it and still would not select sport mode, but all faults had cleared?, so she went out for a 6 mile drive, and all was well!.

this morning came to move it and abs faults are back.

any ideas guys, i was thinking maybe a duff battery...

cheers matt

ps the nav is also playing up the map shows were we are ok but the car position doesnt change, the disc will not come out of the unit so i cant clean it any ideas on this also tried to calibrate it but it wont do anything or accept the tyre sizes cheers again

You need to get someone with a star machine to read the fault codes

i was thinking something along the lines, can this make the gearbox jumpy? ie jumps ito d and r, were is the wheel speed sensor located cheers guys

They are located on the hubs

nice one so i imagine theres four of them? 1 for each wheel but how do you identify them...cheers

Star (Mercedes-Benz official test equipment) should tell you which one is faulty. Good independent garages (MB specialists) and obviously MB dealers will have Star. I believe Black55 has one if you are near him...;)

ps ive found some wheel abs sensors, but what model is my car? seller states they will fit, WILL FIT ALL 2000-2006 W215's and W220's
cheers matt

It's a W203

PLEASE don't guess at the remedy. Get it plugged in first.

oooh to far from me will get it into one closer cheers for the help guys i will let you know the outcome, ps will this affect the navigation? as the nav seems to know were it is but the car doesnt seem to move? regards.

Where are you based?

thanks mr.shr ive found one in loughborough they are going to take a look fingers crossed they say possible gearbox speed sensor?, but most likley wheel sensor? regards lee

got to merc experts, and its showing all four wheel sensors at fault!, so they decided a test drive with the obd attached to take a look, but without them even reseting anything the car righted itself!, and was driving perfect changing gear and the navi working ok, the transmission was showing no faults, all codes reset and all fine, ive left it there so they can re-test drive it, and they say they need to check each wheel sensor individualy.....regards matt
