Recommendation:

Merc Repairs
Hastings Rd
Croydon
0208 406 7866

After going to my normal mechanic with a P0200B fault he replaced the MAF, but with no joy, so I took it to another Garage and it came up with the same fault, replaced MAF only for the engine light to come on 12 miles after fitting.
So took it to Merc Repairs, very helpful, they replaced the adjuster magnet, put in a starting line and replaced Maf, all for £140 and the car has never ran sweeter. I have now booked it in for my service A which is £75 labour + parts

Yep, ive used them on a few occasions....the owner Peves is highly experienced and there prices are also very reasonable.

Definately a very good indie ! :)

What are adjuster magnets and starting lines?

Sounds a bit like a sky hook or a left handed screwdriver.

The owner was very helpful recently, took my car out for a test drive and reported items that should be looked at.

I'll use them again.

a bit worrying that you had 3 MAF's in such a short space of time?

Did Merc Repairs used to be a different outfit? I don't recall the name, something German sounding, they were previously BMW or BMW/German car specialists. Sure it was that premises or one close by, but I thaink that one as it's otherwise residential.

They were called Deutsche Motors, 3-5 hastings Road, Croydon CR0 6PH.....tel 0208 406 7866

Funny that. Deustche charged me about £500 to change air flow sensor. I still have a receipt. I found out from here after that I could've paid £200 for the part & fitted it my self. and dont even need a computer to reset the computer which they said was extra couple of hundred pound (£500 total).

One thing I do know about them is they only fit original MB MAFs sourced from the dealership down there so hence the reason as to why the cost was soo high.

Even though the Bosch units are identical, there is a massive difference in the price from buying one from a Bosch Agent and getting one from the dealership.

Can't understand as to why they charged you soo much for resetting the ECU though. Before I had my own software to do that sort of stuff, I used to take my car down there and I was never over charged and most of the time he used to do a lot of additional bits for no extra charge.

how about price & service wise? i need to get the electric problem sorted as both the windows are not working now unless i reset the battery

merc services charge £150 for A service on <2000 c class, but doesnt say whether its parts & labour or labour only.

"A" service usually includes oil and oil filter only. A service is just an oil change and not much more.

Anything else is at an additional cost.

And we know they'll dig up lots of other repairs so they can add cost

I found this was the case with Merc services. Didnt seem to know quite enough about the classics - eg didn know to replace 1 exhaughts rubber to stop the exhaust making a funny noise, and charged me £175 for a repair that didnt work.

It was only when I took it elsewhere they told me what the very simple (and Cheap @ £6) solution was.

Thanks for relpy's merc repairs quote £250-£300 and merc servicing quote £250 both A service will keep watching to see who recommends which one is better

:(
