Hello guys,

A quick question, this morning (around 10:00) my old 200E would not start kept on turning... but nothing battery is fine, petrol tank is full as well. Car was working fine yesterday.
The local mechanic had a look at it while I was away,
once the car got a bit warmer it fired up and working fine now.
When he gave the keys back to my mate he said that the Carb .... mounting or starting module... will need to be replaced and he quoted £400... for the job.
Is there a common fault with the 200E (W124s)?

I think £400.... is well a lot for the value and age of the car so I am trying if it is something I can change my self.

I would start with good old fashioned ignition/spark checks here.

It could well be just moisture in the cap.

W124 200E's don't have carbs.

Dizzy, plugs, OVP, fuel pump relay, fuel filter, EZL would be things I'd check.

I though as so ... I did think it was a single point injection.
Distributor cap... there is a spray... I can spray what would you recommend?

This happened to the 190E I have a couple of days ago. I removed the distributor cap, cleaned and replaced it and it started right up. It has the same engine as a 200E

Typical fault in this weather if the car's been standing for a while

I must admit it does not do much mileage around the year.... maybe 1000 and if lol.
So will try to remove it and see what is under it lol ...
Cheers guys

It just sounds weird to charge £20 ... to make a car start and check it which is a bargain price for a garage in london ... lol
But then £400 for a car which is as easy to work on as this one mmmm maybe I am in a dream land.

IPA Spray, Contact Cleaner , or Brake Cleaner is the best to use?

If you replace the cap (or leads etc) buy a decent one. Fitting a nasty pattern one on my 190e caused a right pallava!

I have a spare EZL from a 2.0 190e in the garage you're welcome to but it unlikely you need it
