Mercedes Benz Cabrio 500 SEC one of seven

WOW!
What a fantastic machine.

I didn't even know this conversion existed.

I wonder if it was made for the Rainbow Sheik? (Note the Rainbow stripe on the seats, a pattern he often ordered.) :dk:

Fantastic, I wonder if it was converted post or pre the advent of the original SLK

It's not a looker is it. That boot spoiler is a real shocker.

i like it.

It seems to be generating plenty of interest, 23 bids and over €10k so far. Can't decide whether I like it or not, the lines around the back with the roof down don't gel for me.

That looks lovely. Not convinved on the real spoiler but very nice...

I was wondering if the rear spoiler is part of the retaining/holding mechanism for the roof when its open. It does seem to tuck in there very neatly.

Many years ago, I went to look at an SEC convertible which was advertised for sale in Edinburgh. It claimed to be one of only three in the UK. It wasn't one like this though. Pre-facelift model with a manual soft-top. Loved the idea, but I wasn't convinced about how legit the conversion was, so walked away.

Always think its a shame MB abandoned the convertible S-class.

I think Rainbow Sheik is a real possibility on this one. I saw a piece Clarkson did about some of his cars, and there was some rainbow trim going on on some of them...

There's a genuine factory convertible that Mercedes has hidden away out of sight. They were going to put a convertible into production, but it was canned when the last recesion hit in the late 80's.

Quite a few " soft-top" SEC convertibles were made over the years by various coach building firms like Styling Garage Hamburg [pic] and Vantagefield London
