2013 CLS 350 CDI. Tenorite grey.
First time poster on here after moving from a 2007 BMW 330D M Sport to 2010 Merc CLS 350 CDi Grand Edition. Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

There's a couple of questions I'd like to ask......

Car has done 43000 miles. Is there any point keeping the Full Main dealer service history or should I go for a good independent? I'll be keeping it a few years if that makes a difference to peoples responses.
If it IS the independent route I go down, is there anyone close to me that comes recommended? I live near Whitehaven in Cumbria.

I have been quoted a decent price by Celtic tuning to take the car from its factory standard 272 bhp up to 303 bhp and 698 nm torque. I've had previous cars mapped with no issues but not a Merc so dont know the potential pitfalls.

I would appreciate any thoughts on any of the points I've made.

Cheers

Nearest specialist is Carlisle, as far as I know - I live just south of Whitehaven. I wouldn't recommend them, though, they were OK, but more expensive than a main dealer.

Nearest main dealer is Carlisle as well I believe
Thanks for the reply

Welcome, colour and photos ..

Welcome
Excellent choice of car
In the process of getting my car remapped just waiting for acid at MSL to get back to me I have had quotes from others. I do know that Celtic tuning come to your home or place of work which is very handy. I have also spoken with GAD tuning they tell me M-B can't detect there remap which if correct is also good as my car is still under warranty.

I have the same car and recently signed up for a four year service contract with MB at a cost of £42 pm.

Prior to doing this I had an in depth chat with my local recommended indy and after weighing up the dealer / indy options I opted for the car to have a genuine dealer service history , no matter what is said a MB service history is worth more than an independent one regardless of how good or bad they are , at point of sale.

Costs - the dealer servicing works out at just under £2k over the 48 months and the indy was £1.5k over the same term , the MB comes with Mobilo (comprehensive breakdown cover) and that is something I would need to factor in as an extra cost (from AA ,RAC etc) if I went to an indy. So after all the number crunching they worked out almost the same price , a no brainer IMHO , plus the MB price is fixed and the indy will increase over the four years.

I would be interested in the "extra" ponies that you may be liberating as I have just had a look at their website and they offer a 322bhp economy tune . which is more than I have seen quoted anywhere else.

I think if the 2010 CLS GE is the last of the old shape, then it's 272bhp is already chipped with a brabus box. I wouldn't think that you could re-map it further?

It is Brabus tuned yes. Celtic are aware of that and quoted 272 to 303 as I've stated. Just want a bit of assurance I'm not doing anything daft !!!

I'd be asking for evidence.

I had a Brabus chipped E320 (the same engine and at 272bhp) - I took it to a local tuning day in Bromsgrove.

The guys explained that they couldn't produce anything extra because of the Brabus box.

Great car BTW...

South Lakes in Ulverston is about the same distance. Their sales are pretty indifferent, but they seem reasonable for servicing, seem to know what they are talking about and don't push unnecessary stuff.

Where abouts in Whitehaven are you?

I am very surprised you will get any extra power from remapping. As stated, it already has a Brabus tuning box and should be plenty quick enough. I would have thought going higher is inviting risk of damage.

Grand Edition is a cracking car.

The cars great. I agree totally. Makes the beemer I had seem like a little go cart. It looks great, its well specced and was a great price considering it was best part of 50 grand only 4 years ago.
I've spoken to Celtic Tuning again today and he is well aware it is the Brabus tuned model and I have been assured that the Stage 1 remap they are intending to do is well within the the engine, gearbox and torque converter parameters and that it will not be in any way shape or form be detrimental to the car. As well as performance upgrade it also will smooth out apparently well known "flat spots" and give a smoother ride. STILL debating cancelling tomorrows appointment though due to some of the comments on here. Do I listen to Merc die hards who no doubt have my best interests at heart who state to leave alone, or listen to a very experienced remapper, with a good reputation, who tell me that the car is absolutely fine to be remapped...........
Tough call.

do you need more power?

You would expect Celtic to say what it is saying .. it is trying to sell you a remap.

Dont NEED more power no. I would prefer what I have to be optimised. Dont think there is too much wrong with that.

Does the remap price included before and after Dyno time ?

Kenny

That flat spot is a pain, do not notice it when driving slowly but really shows when trying to get a move on

I had the Brabus chip on my CLS320, never noticed a flat spot, just a delay as the gearbox kicks down and then a lovely wave of torque
