Mercedes CLS 350 CDI Grand edition

Does the remap price included before and after Dyno time ?

Kenny

No dyno time. Had the Beemer remapped without a Dyno and it was blindingly obvious that the work had been done. Performance AND MPG were both increased dramatically. And I had that car for 3 years and it never missed a beat. The dyno, in my opinion, with all the electronic gadgetry and wizardry that they can perform now, could potentially be a bit of a red herring unless you absolutely need to know EXACTLY what your car is pushing out. It all depends on whether you are a pessimist or an optimist. I tend to be the latter and if someone tells me they can help me out, then I will tend to believe them until they let me down.

Just to clear something up. I am NOT unhappy with the output from this car. Its the best car I have ever had, by far and I'm absolutely delighted with it. But if it can be improved, and I am not like some others who blindly believe that Mercedes automatically know best, then I will try to improve it. When cars are tuned at factory they are given optimal settings that best suit them to be driven in all countries and all parameters. But, it doesnt have to suit all countries and all parameters, just this one. I appreciate all the comments and its nice to see that the MB Club forum is quite a lot less aggressive than the BMW forum I used to use.

I think we were just concerned that you could be wasting your money, remapping a already chipped car. However it might be that a really good tuner doing a map specific for your car could do a better job that a generic (albeit good) Brabus box.

I always found my Brabus S211 was pretty quick with no obvious flat spots.

Sounds like you are going to enjoy your CLS GE. Great looking cars.

The before and after dyno suggestion simply gives you a tangible reference point, removing some of the smoke and mirrors that surrounds some remap companies.

However, it's seat of the pants driving that matters, so if you're happy with the performance and Celtic are happy with your cash, then all is good.

Let the placebo wear off and report back.

Thanks for all your comments.
I should probably have driven the car for a few months and then got it done, but what the hell, I'd have just been thinking the whole time of getting it done so I might as well get it sorted now!
One more point to add, due to the Xenons that are fitted the main beam and sidelights look very yellow in comparison, as do the fog lights, so I've I've ordered some canbus error free LED's for all of them so they match the whiteness of the Xenons.
Did that with the Beemer as well and it makes it look much cleaner having all the lights the same colour. The fogs need load resistors but its not much trouble fitting them. Just wondering now whether the fog ones will be more trouble than their worth as they come on more due to this active lighting mullarkey when you're cornering.....

No wonder my missus calls me a saddo...........

You can disable the cornering function if you wish, somewhere in the computer.

Might do that if it gets on my nerves later.
Cars now remapped. Quoted figures are 303 bhp from 272 and 515 ft lbs torgue from 450. These figures were quoted due to this type of engine having been remapped at the tuners base on their dyno. My car map was read and then was sent down to their base where it overwritten to suit the previously dyno'd vehicle and then tweaked to suit my vehicles read out. A generic remap then? I suppose you could call it that. The initial remap prior to tweaking is generic to my exact engine as they have had this exact motor / set up on the dyno. Cant see any issues with that tbh

Some purists would be aghast as that was previously believed to be not the way to go. Personally I think thats a bit shortsighted. There isnt much work to be done to remap the car ( an hour or so ) but the hard work is in the dyno testing initially. Clever lads these mappers.

If it eliminated the annoying throttle delay I would be VERY interested. It is the reason that I sold my Grand Edition, after 2 annoying years. A great car spoiled by, I assume, emission restrictions. I had the car back to the dealers more than I drove it. They tried wiping and reloading the engine and gearbox software but still had to admit that they could not resolve the problem. I would get another in a heartbeat if I could be sure that that awful lag could be fixed.

I'll have to admit that I noticed the small throttle delay a touch when I got the car. I was presuming that it was the fact that it was an automatic and I had never had an auto before so I had nothing to compare it to.
The ONE thing I noticed in the small test drive immediately after the remap was that throttle delay on initial acceleration seemed to be gone. That maybe the placebo effect but I dont think so. I will give it a good drive at the weekend and report back.
The mapper DID tell me that the flat spots were due to restraints of the emissions tests during manufacture etc
