Hello fellow MB owners

Guys ,I own a 2006 E280 ,the car started with limp mode until one day got stuck in one gear.
The garages i visited suggested a new/second hand gear box.

I got it and the same garage said they can fix it .But three weeks on they said they cant fix it now .MB said they can only code it if they are the ones who supply the gear box.

Is there anyone out there who can code this gear box to this car and bring it back on the road.

I am really ready to give up unless someone can help me .I live in Darlington ,North Yorkshire.

It has gear-box fitted ,but they said it needs coding.

My suggestion would be firstly find yourself a MB indy (technician) who is prepared to take a look at your car.
Secondly, I assume you still have the first gearbox. If so, and the replacement is a non fix, sell the replacement to recoup your money and have your original reconditioned.

As far as coding goes, I had a replacement auto box in a previous W210 E280. That didn't need coding to work. I suspect your replacement is not the exact same spec as the original.
If any coding is necessary a competent indy with STAR should be able to do it.

I think its a little more tricky for this car and gearbox.

According to this (US) MB Star Bulletin (www.billsden.org/fileadmin/media/mercedes/slk/docs/bulletin_s_b_07_08_43a.pdf), from model year 2005 onwards, replacement or flashing of an engine control module or transmission control module requires SCN (Software Calibration Numbering) and CVN (Calibration Verification Number) coding.

SCN and CVN require authorisation from MB Technical Service Centre and thus can only be performed by dealers and other authorised technicians.

You need to find an indy who is authorised by MB to carry out this coding, I think they do exist as I recall Comand stating they can recode their upgrades and my indy was carrying out a gearbox software update when I last visited him (in Kent unfortunately for the OP)

Another complication may be that MB use this coding process as they declared the ECUs and TCMs as 'theft-related parts'. This probably explains the dealer's unwillingness to code unless they supplied the part.

Given the replacement box will have serial numbers embedded in its software, maybe you need to prove its provenance to whoever you find to code it.

Hopefully, one of the more technically able forum members will be able to further help you with this.

I think you will find the above is correct as it was for my hydro electric plate replacement.

It is theft related and can also only be coded by online STAR.

Olly has this ......but I don't know if now the rules have changed and MB dealer only!

Was the gearbox not salvageable? It sounds like you had a faulty electroplate.

I'm sure anyone who has STAR with online capability (SCN coding) can sort this for you.

Thanks guys,

I have got a bit of feed back.
My mechanic is replacing the ECU to get the box coded.
He is called Prestige in Oldham and call them Merc Specialist ,hence i gave them the job.
So a replacement gearbox plus ECU at over 200 plus fitting and coding likely 800 quid.
How do i know the removed gear box off my car is exactly the one they give me .

He said next week it will be back .Will update you the outcome of this.

Fingers crossed.
Mean time thank you for all possible suggestions MB clubbers.

Removed my post. Companies mentioned not connected.
