Mercedes Enthusiast Magazine Photoshoot

Must be a great honour to get your car in nationwide print. :)

It's not really. 99% of the benefit is to the magazine.

For nothing more than reimbursing the owner for the petrol he uses to get to wherever they want you to go & an eight quid pub lunch they get a the free employee & the use of his car for the day to take free photos to sell their magazines.

If they had to rent the cars, particularly older 'mint' models, they would have to pay hundreds (or more) per day.

If you are selling your car it can give great exposure, otherwise they are taking you for a mug, IMO.

Looks great R2D2, I hope all your hard work shines (pardon the pun!) through on the photographs for the magazine.

Certainly won't find a cleaner one than yours, top work and effort. Must be a great honour to get your car in nationwide print. :)

Thanks Marty. As you know I've just kept plugging away with a layer or two per week and I think it's about as shiny as it needs to be. Re tomorrow; yes I'm excited about the prospect. I think they are making the point that the biggest petrol engine currently available in the C Class saloon is now only a 1.8 in the C250. My 3.5 V6 is an effortless cruiser and a tyre burner when pushed and yet you can't buy one anymore which I think the magazine think is a shame. The weather forecast isn't great but if nothing else the beading will be amazing!

I guess the C250 is a 1.8 Kompressor then?

Anyway, best of luck and if you get any pics from the day, do post them here!

Yes I believe C250 has a turbo. I've been told I can take photos as long as I don't replicate the photographer and spoil the article.

Yes no more V6 petrols in the C Class range im afraid... :(

Then again they werent the most popular due to road tax anyway..

I guess it comes down to costs. More choice and more engine options equals more cost. There are 102 of my model on the UK's Roads. MB I guess would say it costs too much to offer it, enthusiast would say but you sold some and so its a shame to lose the option.

Seems to be the way forward, taking a smaller motor and adding some forced induction to it.

Like the 1.0 Ecoboost on the Ford range which is like a 1.6 but substantially less cost to run (road tax, insurance and fuel).

V. unlikely their photos will reflect the work you've done or are planning on doing.

I agreed to do a photo shoot for an ME cover story a few years ago. Drove about 200 miles (one way) to some desolate, deserted beach in the middle of nowhere on the Norfolk coast in the middle of winter. It was actually snowing so hard at 4 a.m. when I set off that I nearly went back to bed.

On arrival, all the cars were filthy & Dan Trent 'washed' all 4 of them using a 25 litre can of water & a sponge (as God intended). We spent about 10 hours shivering in a urine stinky beach shelter while the photographer took forever to do his thing & then we drove home in a convoy, swapping cars after every few miles. The convoy was the only good bit. The photos turned out OK but weren't of sufficient size or detail to show the stuff you're worried about.

As a regular reader of ME this story had me stiches! :D

I'm only driving 6 miles and no one is getting near my car with a sponge!! I don't expect lunch or mileage, I said yes just for the life experience :)

Well, we started early and the weather stayed dry (phew!), Kyle did the interviewing and Terry was the Tog. Nice guys and some excellent photos. I was allowed to take a snap to prove that that we met! Now the LONG wait until April next year. Discovered that my car can outride the tog's Scooby in a straight line but not around bends!

not the most flattering of locations.

Shiny metal against a grimy backdrop of urban decay is a slightly cliched image but how many ways are there to photograph cars:dk:

Naked on the beach of course!

LOL. Actually the angles they took were significantly better! I saw some of the finished shots and they were great. We also had some fun doing the "action" shots on the move!

Looks like Chatham historic dockyard to me rather than urban decay!

10/10 and the shots they took were consequently much better. The reflections of the old buildings we got were great, I just hope they use some in the final cut.

Sounds better than Chatham Dockyard, but we can live in hope of a couple of bikini clad beauties, that R2D2 has failed to mention, braving the weather to enhance the curves of the very shiny black car. :bannana:
