Anyone know a trusting mechanic in harrogate, leeds, wetherby area with the Star computer?

what are you looking to get done?
Hello, first time posting so please bear with me. I drive a 2002 w210 e320cdi, approx 160000 miles. It's a little rattle but I think still pretty solid. Whilst coming from work I floored it to get out of a tricky situation on motorway black smoke was in abundance but then a loud tapping sound from engine and I thought great soi slowed way down and got home. Now basically if the car is under any stress the tapping sound returns. I am no mechanic and haven't a clue. I also have the oil warning comes on daily after car has been running for 10 mins or so telling me to reduce oil level. I spoke to a mechanic and explained he said it might be the catalytic converter. I also read in the car manual that oil should be checked via the computer controls on steering wheel 5 mins after the car has been switched off when I do this I get the warning to reduce oil level but only when engine is hot. It states also in the manual that reduce oil level warning could damage the catalytic converter. Has anyone any ideas or advice. I haven't the cash to take it to a MB garage.

Sounds to me like the oil has been filled to the top when cold not taking into account the fact that the oil will expand when engine is warm if the car is saying theres to much oil then theres too much oil !! Unless your on a gradient while checking the level which i dont think the car will let you do.
The tapping is one of your injectors most probably. You need to check them for carbon deposits and air escaping when engine is being revved. Really you need to do some basic diy checks yourself to find out what going on ...!!

IN that case I'll go with the flow & back Intune. Sounds a fairly basic problem that won't even need access to Star, but they have it in any case

If one or more of your injectors has been leaking more fuel than it should. The excess fuel may have diluted the oil too much reducing its lubricating problems. The noise you may be hearing is the sound of a worn internal engine component or possibly an injector as has been said . First thing to do is 1 buy an engine oil dip stick/toll off ebay and 2 change the engine oil. Any decent mechanic experienced in diesel engines should be able to help just by listening to the engine noise. The most experienced diesel mechanics are often those dealing with commercial vehicles--- they tend to charge realistic rates too.
