Hi all I need some advice, as I'm thinking of buying one of these, preferably a 2002 onwards. What sort of things to look out for? What sort of price should they be worth?
I'm looking to buy one with 7 seats, possible built in sat nav.

Anyone selling one of these?

Any help and advice will be appreciated

Cheers :)

No it's 'just' a facelift ML. From 2002 MY (possibly late 2001) they all got the larger front bumper with rectangular fog-lights...

ML55 AMG's have wider wheel arches and twin bulges / power domes on the bonnet.

Sorry, posted too quickly in response to KillerHertz quesiton re AMG kit on the ML...

Urgently Wanted Ml270cdi

Has anyone else got a ML270 CDI for sale or know anyone selling one.
My wife is driving me up the wall and she wants either a Silver or black one.

Must be face lift 2001 onwards
7 seater,
possibly with sat nav
must have full leather.
Also Full MB history.
Reasonable milage.

I tried buying one from ebay. You know what someone bought before the auction ended offline.

The alloys are nice, what's the ride like on 20" wheels?

Post some mroe pics and more details of the spec please.

Ours in on 17's still, wanting to upgrade, thinking of staying with 17's but in a different style like the Melkalina (ML 500 6 spoke) or possibly the 18" AMG's.

Just worried about what it may do to the ride quality, they're not fantastic as it is.

To be honest the ride is very stable and its sticks to the road like glue.
Fabulas ride. Wicked road handling.

I will post some more pics soon.

The spec is 20" Brabus wheels which cost over 4K
SAT NAV MB spec
7 seats
Parking sensors
headlamp wash wipe
Zenon headlamps
face lift
Black with cream leather
49K miles
Full main dealer History
Mint condition
6 cd changer

I have hunted around and around and finally got the spec I wanted.

MAY SELL for profit.

Are the ML's really any good, there are loads of "bad" write ups about them, I love the style but would be scared of buying a bad one. I presume the 2001 and on models are better and how do you know if you have an american or german built car. I am currently looking at 4 x 4 cars for going shooting in as my C class is now suffering, had been looking for a black X5 from my local dealer but they get sold before they even have them in. Are there things to check out on the ML270 or are they all ok now?

They are very expensive to run if you are going from a C class. Expext rattles, a very wallowing ride and extreme thurst. Tires are about £150 each and the brakes need changing every 20k or so (budget £500+).

However they don't rust like other Merc's of the same vintage 98-2004.

If you buy one, good luck.

Today I looked at a RAV 4, X trail, Hyundai Tuscon and a Shogun Pinin. When we got back in my C class even my wife said those cars aren't a patch on this, the wooden trim, the mushroom interior, my car even still has a distinctive smell, the others seem very plastic and tinny, even my doors feel heavy and solid. Out of the ones I saw the rAV 4 was the best looking but on Peach & Lemon it gives it some bad reviews with known problems, so at the end of the day all cars seem to have problems just a matter of finding acceptable problems. A friend wants my car at the end of this month if he sells his so I need to get something sorted just in case. Any other suggestions for a nice 4 x 4 which will only do about 4,000 miles a year.

You clearly love Mercs. Me too. The diesel ML is not thirsty. On my 270cdi I got 30 plus on a run and all around got about 28mpg. Anyway with your mileage it's not a problem. I loved the ML. Just so comfortable on a long run. Sitting up high is nice and the engine is tough and punchy. The suspension is good for a 4x4 but just a bit jiggly on the lousy roads round here. Other than that did 15,000 fault free miles. Most owners I've met love them.

Just a thought. If you want a trouble free, very reliable and nice to drive 4x4 mainly for on-road use, the Honda CRV fits the bill. I had one for two years. It was good. Cheap secondhand too.

Thanks for that Hawk20, I checked the Hondas out a while ago, nice built motors but the inside are plain, I think my car has spoilt me, the wife says it will be an hard act to follow and my car is only an Elegance but I love the interior. If I find a ML270 in smoke silver with java interior I think I would have to have it. The only off roading I would do would be dirt tracks and across fields on shoots and not mud plugging so it may be fit the bill for me. Oh and fuel consumption is not a real problem as I can get a tank full of diesel a month for free.

The faclifted ML's (post 2001) are much better. The build quality improved immensly and the subtle restyle freshend thing up visually.

They're getting much cheaper now, but remember, even if you're buying a 2004 car, dynamically it drives like an older car (as well as being an SUV!) these cars hark back to 1998.

True you can't igonore the running costs and dynamically it's no X5 / Cayenne / Range Rover. However they are well built (the post 2001 anyway), are pretty good off road and have great presence / image. True running costs are high, but to be honest that's to be expected with what was a £30k + car when new. These vehicles are very heavy so that's why the eat brakes so quickly.

I think they're a great buy at the moment, find one with the right spec in the right colour combination and you'll be happy.

Worth noting the 7 seat option (aka family pack) is one option that retains value and is worth having. It isn't easy to retrofit properly. You can get the additional seats easily enough but upgrading to ventilated rear windows isn't an easy or cheap task...
