A big thank you, this was real helpful, will cut and paste it to my garage. The problem is that they rarely tend to take note of what I say though!!OP , Rear sub frames old/used/refurbed have been available to buy online for a while now. Because the rear sub frame corrosion issue on this car has been a known issue for a few years .
Mercedes Benz have been reported as replacing them free of charge even on cars without full MB service history because the rear sub frame is not a service item. This route is probably not for you as you are in a hurry to get back on the road and there is no guarantee that even after lots of time and effort spent discussing the issue with MB there is no guarantee of success.
If you plan to keep the car I would suggest you get the rear brake lines replaced while the frame is off. Or at least get them inspected very carefully by someone who knows what they are looking at. depending on mileage getting all of the bushings and links replaced might be money well spent while its off the car. Also a great opportunity to get that whole underside exposed bodywork properly rust proofed as well.
IMHO just dropping a rear subframe and bolting another one in its place without doing easy access remedial work at the same time on a 13 year old car is a bit of a wasted opportunity. But I understand why you need the car back on the road as soon as is possible.
