mercedes servicing

Hi guys.
I have just bought a 59 a class 180 CDI, and I have a question about servicing.

It has its annual service coming up in August time, and I have read some things about how Mercedes won't validate warranties / recalls etc unless you take it to an official Mercedes garage.
I have also read that they are relaxing the rules on allowing you to take it to specific independent merc garages.

Please don't ask me where I read this, hours of trawling through forums etc.. Hell I might have also fully made it up

Where should I take it to?? Is it worth getting the official merc servicing when you pay £30 a month?

Also my uncle (who I bought the car off) said that the log book is now fully digital and that is the reason why the car did not come with one. Is that correct too??

Merc have used digital service books for a while now. I think they can do a print off for you on request though. My dealer offered to before. I've always used the Service Plan monthly option.

I am not sure you need to worry about Mercedes warranty cos that is long finished on your car. If you want to keep the Mobilo bit then you have to keep the car in the dealer network. Even if you were still within the Mercedes warranty period, you wouldnt have to keep it in the dealer network for the warranty to be honored.

If you have bought extended warranty (from 3rd party, Mercedes dont actually do them), I dont think where you service your car will have any bearing on the warranty being honoured.

If you car already has a full MB service history, then it's worth considering whether to maintain that. Call a few MB specialists and a few MB main dealers, and compare prices. More importantly work out which one you would like most to do business, and go with them.

Whereabouts are you - members may be able to recommend some MB specialists in your area.

Get it serviced at Main dealer, most offer discounts to older cars...

Just bought my SL (beginning of April) and got a new log book from DVLA.... sent that off to put a personal plate on it and got an updated log book back about 3 weeks ago... So not sure about an "electronic" log book......

The service book is electronic, not the logbook - that is still paper based.
