Are they any good?

Some ***** has opened their door against mine or given it a whack with a trolley, it has chipped the paint a good few layers down,

:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

So I'm now trying to figure out if I need to visit a paint shop, or some SMART repairers or a touch up pen / DIY fix?

They are cheap enough from main dealers and you're guaranteed a colour match.

Don't forget the clear lacquer to finish the repair off.

easy to use or hard to use?

Smart repair around £140-160

Dark colours are easier to do.. Halfords ones are best as they come with a brush and a needle end to control flow easier.

The Mercedes brushes are designed for repainting the entire car in one blob.

It really depends who is mixing it. Had a spray done a while back and watched him mixing it. It was just done adding ingredients by weight and considering some were very small amounts it seemed a bit hit and miss. The finished result was rather light and I ended up using it on some components I was refurbishing.

That's a £40 - £50 smart repair around here I had several scratches done in SWMBO Volvo before it went and that was only £85

Where are you located ?

This was the Halfords item: Halfords | Halfords Mercedes 'Obsidian Black' Scratch & Chip Repair Kit

Obsidian Black - Off the shelf

Flango, I'm based in East London / Essex but I do make a couple of trips a year to Southport (if it is any cheaper up north?) as I am due to go up there within the next month I could wait until then if someone has a recommendation.

My only concern is will it get worse or start to rust?

I'm in Southport tomorrow night for a curry with some members off the forum and others. I've got the picture so will ask them what a local smart repair would cost but thinking will be half the price of London

You could always just put a light coat of clear coat on to protect ingress this would be removed by the smart repairer prior to doing the job

Will try and get a Southport price for you and post back

This has been sorted,

Thankfully my local Mercedes Approved body shop invited me down to touch it in FOC.

It's much better now.

I have this Obsidian Black Halfords kit, and it works well.

I don't think you need to be concerned about the quality of the Halfords kit or colour match as such, as said it is fine, the question is if the chip can be repaired with this type of kit (Halfords or MB), and I don't know the answer to that

Hope this helps

Feel your pain! I know accidents happen but when it's downright carelessness and no regard for someone elses property it makes it so frustrating

Ditto. Handy to have one for stone chips anyway.

I have the M-B Jasper Blue one for the Vito and that's fine with a very fine modeller's paintbrush.
