Folks,

Recent service advised that propshaft coupling at rear is splitting, so I need a new one. Any thoughts on OEM vs. either Meyle or Febi? OEM coming up over £200, Febi and Meyle around £90. On one hand, don’t want to scrimp on parts, but it’s a huge difference in price and I’m thinking that Meyle is an OEM manufacturer anyway?!

mrrude if you- have - to buy one of these i would go for Bilstien i as for the other make i would never buy anything of theirs again ,,after a coolant pump, and tensioner along with the pulley all these failed after just 4 years and 4000 mile. I would try and get Mercedes parts first ..Lemforder do make good parts

i would go for Bilstien
Let us all be very clear about this.

Febi Bilstein is a company that shifts motor parts, many of which are made by other companies.

Bilstein is a company that is part of the Thyssen Krupp empire and they make dampers and springs and doubtless much else.

Febi Bilstein parts can be a lottery. I ordered Lemfoerder flex discs and AutoDoc supplied Febi. I was going to send them back until I realised that they were made by SGF, an original supplier.

I always buy MB original parts if I cannot install them myself. Otherwise, I might chance a Febi as my son did recently in an emergency.

Meyle I have heard of but never used.

From pics it’s looks like the Febi joints have SGF made in Germany stamped on them so OEM.

If doing the centre mount I would pay up for genuine or Lemforder to be sure. A garage fitted a cheap one to my E320, the bearing whined like mad and had to be replaced…

I thought Lemforder was MB OEM anyway for suspension bits, bit like Pagid for brake discs/pads, Mann for air filters, I could be mistaken though and I guess there could be some variations across the model ranges/date of manufacture.

Ray, steer clear of Meyle parts . I can see they also make a premium part at extra cost, as well as the normal parts ..To me i want a part to do the job first time and not have a choice to pay more for a better item . .The quality should be a premium part to start with .

Just put a Febi Bilstein Lower control arm on my 2012 S204 after a rushed cheapo was installed for the MOT. So far seems ok. I examined it when it arrived and the general fit and finish seemed to be high quality. But time will tell.
I think as mentioned Lemforder and febi Bilstein are the makes to go for.
