I'm not aware of Mich. compound mix, but they still use a harder compound mix when compared to others, they always have to maintain the tyre that covers the most miles.

You are missing the point. The silica improves the wear rating without resorting to a harder compound.

Is it also not Michelin that use Kevlar webbing instead of steel banding in the tyres to stiffen part of them and improve wear rates?
