michelin crossclimate

My C180K Blue Efficiency was originally supplied with low rolling resistance tyres as part of the standard spec. I suspect they were needed to get into VED band F as it wouldn't have made it if CO2 emissions had been 1.5% higher.

Mercedes of Guildford called me to say CrossClimates would be fine, as would the Goodyear 4seasons, though they still reckon the Michelin Efficiency Grip MO and Goodyear's Efficiency Preference (which I don't know) could be a better bet in the wet if you don't need to plough through snow on a regular basis.

I fitted proper Avon winter tyres to a previous 4lt RWD Auto Lexus LS400 and driving on snow was like driving on tarmac.

I also fitted 2 Crossclimates to the front of SWMBO's FWD Nissan Qashqui. On a frosty car park last winter they were near useless. Havent tried them on snow though.

We had Crossclimates on one of our cars (Saab 9-3 Aero Wagon) in 17" and they were fantastic. They are very clever, not only on the tread design but also on the silica compound. They generate more grip in most conditions that we have in the UK, especially in Scotland, most of the time. They aren't a gimmick. They developed these on the back of the work they did engineering a treadless (!) wet/intermediate tyre for Le Mans and endurance racing which is a dominating tyre!

I am a massive advocate of crossclimates. We also had a c180 CGI estate blue efficiency and the cross climates all round were the best mod I made to the car. Handled the massive amounts of standing water we get here on the roads in West Wales with ease, performed very well in heavy snow driving across the Austrian Alps. We needed a proper certified all season tyre for driving the alpine roads every year. They were supremely quiet and I had done 20,000 on them when I sold the car this year and all 4 easily had another 10 k on them. Going to get another set for our new C250 if they make them in that size!

Wouldn't this be true of any tyre that's not actually studded?

I've put a full set on my BMW 528i touring. Needless to say May is probably not the best month to test the more demanding part of the all-season capability but so far they have performed as I'd expect a good Michelin summer tyre to do.

Think it should be OK - Michelin insist they are essentially a summer tyre and they seem to perform like one in summer conditions. I'd put the CCs on the back if you're just getting the two. CCs are generally XL too. You can message Michelin on their site if you want their opinion.

Should have said, by the way - I've gone for the CCs myself - getting them tomorrow. I'll get back in a week or two to say how they're doing for us.

Have they released them in 18" yet? Last time I looked I think they were only available upto 17"
