Missing boot lights

Hi Guys,

I've had my CL for a few months now and, whilst I should have spotted this earlier, it turns out that I have non existant boot interior lights. I initially assumed that the bulb had blown both sides, so I thought its a simple 2min job which of course didn't get done until 4 months down the line... and when I came round to doing it today... Nothing there! Just an empty lens.

There's no wiring or light housing or anything. Its simply just a cover, and through the hole all I can see are things relating to the exterior rear light.

I consulted EPC and it shows clearly that they should be operational lights;

Has anyone experienced this before? I can't believe that it would have been fergotten at the factory, its quite a simple but important thing. You can only see the rear-most part of the boot with the light on the bootlid itself, but the rest of the boot is in total darkness, which is annoying at night time.

Does anyone else with a CL, or even W221 S-Class, have an experience with this? Is it possible that they stopped fitting them from a certain model year onwards, or something?

I doubt that MB decided to stop including trunk lights in their top vehicle :)

Be mentally prepared to find some bitch of an electrical problem that the previous owner didn't want to deal with. After seeing CEL/ABS/SRS Light bulbs removed from the instrument cluster to conceal a fault, it wouldn't surprise me.

My old car has three. Two under the parcel shelf and one in the boot lid.

The car is a 14 plate and he only did 11,000 miles on it. Its still under original factory warranty for another 2 months thankfully.

It sounds like there is a bit of an electrical mystery under the boot carpet then.

I will keep this thread updated, I will call tomorrow to get the car booked in.

My car definitely has the rear lights in the boot as indicated in the diagram you posted!

EPC shows the bulb and holder with a '.' before part number meaning its part of the A221 820 04 01

I suspect someone messed up taking it apart at some point, and you'll find the connectors are behind the side panels...

...Which is exactly what they found, hidden behind the side panels, with the bulb still in it! They fixed it in 20 minutes :)

Anyway its working now at no cost to me so I'm a happy chappy :bannana:
