Ml270
Just bought ml270 and it only has one key . Anyone got any idea how much a spare key costs ? Presume you have to go to main dealer ? Would be good to have spare unless it's silly money . Thanks in advance for any info

Thanks for advise , I live near Watford but will look might be a key specialist round here , just presumed it would have to be mob garage. £250 a lot but not if u lose you're only key !!!

The same thing happened to me when i bought my w211. Only came with 1 key. I wasn't too concerned though as sometimes another one comes in your post a few weeks later. But it never did. I haven't got another one, so i really hope i don't close the key in the boot without unlocking the car first.

^ Do yourself a favour and get a 2nd key.
Lose the only one you have and you're stuffed.

Dealer depending they want to physically see the car and photo the VIN as well as your V5C and D/L. .. well they did when I purchased another key.

There is a mb garage just down the road from me in apsley so not to much hassle to get one apart from expense . Think I will get one . It's good they want to see log book or car otherwise anyone could get one ! Looking forward to picking it up now

An Auto Locksmith near me will "effect an entry" and work out your key code by connecting to the module that talks to the key.

He will then program you a key for slightly less than the Dealer will charge you. The big advanbtage is you can put-off the unpleasant business of paying until you actually lose the only key.

Obviously, this is what I've done, but mitigated the cost somewhat by having another Emergwency (mechanical) key cut, so no brutal methods are required to get in. After that, I'll let the Locksmith deal with the alarm which goes off immediately you open the door..

What are this locksmiths details, for anyone who may be in dire need of his services.???

Having recently purchased an older style key for a ML270 the cost was £160 + vat + £50 to program it.

So £242 assuming the £50 to program was inc of VAT.

Was this from a main dealer?

I paid £229 all inclusive (about 3 years ago though) from a main dealer.

You're a braver man than I.
Just hope you don't lose it or it gets broken.

Do they rigidly follow this rule for a car that's not exactly 'rich pickings for a tea-leaf', like a 202 or a 210?
