ML 270 cdi limp home mode

hi there everyone.

car went into limp home mode last week.
cleaned the MAF sensor and noting. soo took her to the local merc garage. after 1.5hour labour for dignostics they advised its the intake manifold.

is this a comon fault? is there a cheaper fix. The garage want over £500 to fix it.

I believe it is a common problem. They have a butterfly setup and they seem to wear out around 1400000 kms. I think the ones on mine are gone as well and I will try and tackle the job next week.

It could be the electrical motor under the inlet manifold.

has anyone resolved this one yet? Just wondering how much of a nightmare/wallet battering job it is
