ML 270CDi

I'm thinking of going to have a look at this tomorrow:

http://www.mercedes-benz.motortrak....4053585,14004966,14033313,14012787&vidindex=0

Any points to look out for on the old style ML?

Nice colour. As ever with the ML look at the build quality, Brake wear, smoothness of gearchange, engadge low range, squeaks from rear seats.

I also rememeber that the 270 engine has had a few issues, best to research them also. I take it Mercedes will offer a good warrenty?

Best of luck,

Simon

Vehicle was nice and in good condition for age.
1 year full warranty offered
Seemed a little slow off the mark compared to my A6 130bhp TDi. Throttle response different & obviously more weight to shift.
All going well until they came up with a price for my trade in
Audi A6 Avant SE 1.9TDi multitronic first registered Feb 05
Heated leather seats
29,000 miles, very good condition, recent service, MOT, new tyres & brake pads
I thought their offer of £10K was taking the pi** a little.
Sales person due to phone me early next week - whether they will reduce their price as it is at the very top end for that year and increase the trade in offer remains to be seen

Hello

That sounds a lot for a ML270 ? if you think the audi residual is bad..the mercs not going to be good.

Nice spec and low miles but think I would look for one cheaper there are loads about?

Sell yours private

Can anyone advise "book" trade in value for my car & "book" value for the ML270cdi.
This will help me decide whether to negotiate on this one or walk away & look for another.

Also had a look at a 54 plate 2.5TDi VW Touareg with 48,000 miles and similar spec to the ML. Didn't like the interior as much as the ML and it was quite tatty, Price £19,495.

Piff.

When I was looking I looked ax X5's, Toureags, Jeeps, ML, lexus and probably some others.

I loved the Touraeg inside, but just prefered the Merc.

I was also looking at the petrol versions as I do do the miles to worry about derv.

Use the Vauxhal website and go to value my car.

Tried that for my car. Doesn't ask about leather or other extras. Also only lists my car up to 05/54, mine is 05/05 (must have been sitting in a field for a while!). Basic trade in value for vgc £11800.
That makes the MB dealers offer of £10K a little off the mark. They said that they had an Audi dealer within their group (Jardine) who provided their price.
Retail for mine appears to be around (on Auto Trader & Audi web site) £16k to £17k, depending on main dealer or independant.
Before I had their trade in offer I was hoping for a "price to change" of about £4,000.

I'll see what they come up with next week.

Hiya Piff

I have the same model and year. Slightly better spec. Great car. Probably has more items on board. I would check the full spec from the VIN.

Price seems a bit high but that is probably because it is well specified. If the car is in good order low mileage and and with 12 months warranty, in my considered opinion, it's better than a lower specified cars at say 2k less bought from eBay or a non Merc dealer.

The 270 is a bit slow on the uptake, but who cares. With that body nobody would guess!

The Network Q price estimator is a waste of time. Only takes in consideration basic model spec and doesnt allow for extras such as leather seats etc. Its all about being in the right place at the right time and hopefully screwing the dealer somewhat to get the best deal. All the best...

Hi Piff,

Yes it's a bit slow off the mark...if you leave it in drive. Put it in first and stamp your right foot down and it's not too bad (not a sports car though...but you don't want a 'sports car').

The Alcantara seats are better than the leather ones as a) alcantara 'grips' and b) these seats are more supportive...although sliding an inch or two sideways on the leather seats was 'interesting' ;) .

If you go for it I'm sure it will do what you want it to do.

Cheers,

To replace all discs and pads at a dealer can cost up to £1000. They wear the rears out at about 10-14k

For that sort of work I usually use an independant. Presumably it would be considerably cheaper

Makes the £9k they offered for my 53 plate 135,000 miler ML270 look quite good now:D

Labour will be cheaper....but they are expensive parts:eek:

Check for rust around the boot release (above number plate) and along seams around the inside edge of the boot.

Audi price from wisebuyers.

Car valuation adjusted for 29,000 miles
Retail: £12,603

Private Good: £11,583
Private Average: £10,543
Private Poor: £10,023
Part Exchange: £11,063
Trade: £10,751

No account for extras but you could maybe get £500 on a good day.

I used to have the 270 cdi - it is slow off the mark so I had it chipped and it made a huge difference with no loss of mpg. It was much more responsive and more fun to drive.

If you do as above ( I did with a TD4 Freelander) then remember to tell your insurance.

Made a huge difference in the TD4 far smoother from cold and safter at junctions.

good point about the insurance. Shouldnt increase premium by much if at all
