ML 420Cdi Bulkhead Water

Hi All

I have an ML420cdi that is suffering from a lot of trapped water sloshing about in the bulkhead.

This was first noticed by my Mercedes in December last year (I actually thought it was a bottle of water in the door pocket making the noise!) on a routine service.

I wont go into all the detail of how long it has taken them to sort out this issue and the poor service received, suffice to say that it isn't booked in to be repaired (under warranty) still for another week!

It seems this a major problem to fix and I have been told they need to remove the entire dashboard and i think the front wings and keep my car for upto 10 days.

Has anyone else suffered this problem and if so was if rectified successfully? I am slightly concerned about there might be long term damage from corrosion. Also of the possibility of any knock on effects from having to remove the dashboard as I am always wary when vehicles with such complicated wiring etc are fiddled with.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Friend had this on a Volvo XC90. They could hear water sloshing around and then smelled it as it went stagnant. In this case the water was in the cills.

I too would be wary of the loing term consequences for corrosion (although I think much of the new MLs body is galvanised?) but probably more importantly electronics. Presumably the car is too old to reject?
