Hi all,

My Ml164 has a paint code preceeded with the letter C - i have been told that this means it has an extra thick protective clear coat? Is this the case?

If this is the case does this affect the thickness of the paint? What is the normal thickness, is 110 about right (110 on that gadget they use?!).

I am trying to resolve a minor paint issue and if anyone is knowledgable on this it would realy help, cheers.

Thicknesses vary from panel to panel. When my E55 went in for bodywork under goodwill the bodyshop guy tested the whole car and every panel was different, IIRC the roof was the thickest.

OK slightly tangentially, here's a question:-
Has anyone heard of modern car water based paint becoming thinner and thinner due to regular washing?

or does various coats of fresh wax make a micrometer (is that right, the paint thickness tester thingy) read higher? i'd love to know
