I quite fancy a set of running boards for my ML but cant make up my mind on which ones to go for. So maybe you can help me out....

There are four choices:

1. Mercedes original
2. Brabus - illuminated ( If anyone can find me a better picture I'd be most gratefull :o)
3. Non MB - but cheap
4. Leave it as is

I am sort of veering toward the Mercedes ones but from what I can see the Brabus illuminated ones do look good too.

2. Brabus

3. Other make

4. None leave it as is.

For now my vote is OEM, but could be swayed by a better picture of the Brabus ones.

I think the Mercedes side steps really add something to the 164 ML and GL. I'd steer clear of the others though.

I have some 'other make' on mine.:o
My wife had trouble getting in without, but I couldn't bring myself to pay four times as much for the OEM ones for something that does the same job.
Always the same with me though...it's what it does rather than what it looks like that is important. I drive it and use it, I don't sit there looking at it!;)

Mac,
Be interesting to see how yours looks...!!;)

Similar situation for me too with the wife, however I just find it hard to bring myself to put on a part that is not MB. :o

Er! that was your S class with them small wheels I saw at Jay's GTG wasn't it?:D:D They must have cost a pretty penny or 2....

Thanks for all votes and comments it seems like I'm going for the OEM. :thumb:

This is where Mactech has a point

I have found some for around £700, Brabus at £550 and cheapie at £300. Of course I could save all that and.....not get any,

Personally I would pay extra to have them removed.
1. They collect dirt which ends up on your trousers as you get out.
2. They make getting in and out more not less difficult.
3. They look as though you are trying to be a rapper or come from downtown Brooklyn IMO. Same as big wheels do.

Thanks Hawk, all very good points

But, if you really like them there is always an excuse for having them. ;)

I have tried them at the dealer and
1.I think the MB OEM's fit very well and would IMHO be less likley to have dirt on top but keep it underneath
2.I would agree that they are slightly more difficult to get in when your not used to them but my wife thinks it's easier, especially when getting out.
3.I am a rapper. You got me banged to rights so don't be trippin! Don't be hatin! Break yo'self!

Check dis aht....

I have the OEM sidesteps on my GL, it makes the car in my opinion. They are a chrome finish though, which is a pig to keep shiny!

Yep, I voted OEM. Bit worried about the description of the brabus ones...illuminated....is that like the fluorescent underlighting effect the barry boys go for? Can you choose your colour....????

A gold medallion round the neck of the owner, and a few gold identity bracelets, with a shirt open half-way to the waist should complete the perfect gangsta picture for the GL and the ML.

The OEM would be my first choice if cost was not an issue....

Can't stay long, I've got these gold chains hanging down to the ground and I've got to go and collect the drugs money.:o

But no! The wheels on the S didn't cost me that much, and I'll be able to tell you if I made or lost money on the deal when they are sold in the spring....;)

The originals look best in my opinion.

I've fitted these before and its easy enough to do, but messy as this part of the car is pretty grubby.

If you do and you break one or two of the plastic lugs when you tighten them up, let me know. I have some spares as they are only available in bags of five!

Sweet ML, I don't think I'll be getting that kind of MPG out of mine somehow.:o

Alfie,
Thanks for the heads up.

Hi,

I am contemplating fitting running boards to my 2003 Inspiration. I have decided against the chrome tube type and really fancy something similar to the above, if they are available for the W163. I doubt if they will be OEM, but has anyone seen/fitted high quality W163 running boards similar to the above please ?

Thanks.

They make getting in and out tricky and don't half make your trousers filthy.
