ML Tracker

Hi and welcome....always nice to see another ML on the forum! Ordinarily, Tracker stickers would be applied to windows to deter thieves...(actually - quite a good idea to get dummy ones!). You could also ring Tracker and find out if the vehicle is registered.

Thanks, i have only had the car two months and my annual insurance is now up, most of the online quotes are offering discounts for a tracking system. I will call tracker tomorrow (answer machine on)

Hello

Welcome I know a few I rang asked for a tracker to be fitted, in the end I sent with Privalege no tracker needed and the cheapest car I have insured for a long time at £400 (me 33 and wife 26) with protcted no claims.

Post some pics of your truck when you can

My M class is with NU who did not require a Tracker...and they were very reasonable.

I find tracker stickers are not fitted. I certainly didn't get any with mine.

If they know it's fitted there aren't too many places to look to rip it out.

I thought it was Tracker policy to NOT fit stickers?

John

Tracker don't apply stickers to advertise one is fitted. From their website;

Q:Why is there no exterior TRACKER branding on the vehicle to deter thieves from stealing it?

A:TRACKER is not intended to act as a deterrent. A major benefit of the system is that the thief does not know the TRACKER unit is there so will not attempt to find and remove it. This means there is a greater chance of getting your vehicle back quickly and undamaged.

Mmmm, interesting, I've seen loads of cars with Tracker stickers

Fakes?? Hopefully as deterents

Mine has tracker as was ex-demo, and MB fit to all their demo cars.

No stickers, and am thinking of getting it activated - will see what difference it makes to insurance quotes and whether it will pay for itself ..... anybody know what it is likely to cost ? (Yes, I know I could phone them up !)

About £150 - £400 depending on type you have and length of subscription you take out (1yr or term of ownership)

Personal view on trackers: If my car gets knicked, I dont want it back. It would never feel the same to me and I reckon others have the same view.

Just give me the insurance money and I'll go and get another and start again.

Totally agree but with new vehicles some insurance companies insist on this item.

I suppose having tracker fitted might protect the No Claims in so far as the vehicle is returned?

When I bought my ML, I didn't know I had a tracker, so I insured my car with admiral, they didn't ask if I had one or needed.

This year I shopped around and other insurance companies wanted a tracker. I phoned tracker and got the free phone number from their website and all I gave them my reg and chasiss number and they told me I have a horizon tracker.

£30 to register and £100 per year to get it tracked or £350 until I own the ML.

My insurace said I would only save £20, so what the point?

i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!! i hate tracker!!

Thats better , big deep breath :)

I have to agree with Fuzzer, you save a small element on your insurance versus the cost of installation and running costs of the tracker.

Yes you will get your car back when the police have the bandwidth to find it, probably after it has been damaged to the extent that you don't want it back anyway.

Anyone thats ever called them will agree they are complete morons.

Avoid unless you really really really have to. total waste of money.

To add insult to injury after youve spent all the money getting it installed the next person gets the benifit of it too without any value being passed back fo you for having it fitted. Then there is the secrecy of where its installed IN YOUR OWN CAR!!!

I shall seek and destroy when it comes to the car going thats for sure!

Having thought a bit more though, I can see a case for a tracker on rare cars that cannot be replaced easily. But for run of the mill easily replaceable cars I don't see the point.
