ML W164 Leak from Tailgate

I looked in the fuse box compartment in the back of the ML and found a pool of water. The problem is the flimsy tailgate rubber seal. I replaced it, but soon after it tends to collapse and water gets in again. The solution is to buy some surgical hose and thread it through the cavity of the rubber seal. This provides a proper seal and stops water getting in.

Assuming this is a W164 it can also come through the rear lights. Kills the rear SAM.

That was my first thought too, but I replaced the seals on the rear lights that was not the problem. I used a garden hose to check and the water comes in through the poorly designed door seal. With the cavity in the door seal filled no water is getting in now.
