good morning, this is a first time for me so be nice lol..i have a ml 270cdi 54 plate and recentley while the vehicle is running and driving the engine will just cut out (at all speeds) and will coast to a stop where i can immediatley start up again and drive off, well until next time. things are getting real bad now as approaching a round about accelerated to onto it and it died. dangerous i know..
now recently my wife was driving it with the spare key went to bq came back to the vehicle on start up the engine turned over and started then just died with START ERROR, called rac said 1 and a half hours so i managed to get the original key and it started straight the way... could these be linked, i have took it to my local garage who ahve a snap on diagnositc machine hooked it up but no faults at all..please help does anyone now of a GOOD mercedes nechanic in leicester...

Did you get the EPC warning light on the dash when the engine cut?

My 270CDI ML has behaved like this once - I floored it from a garage to get into fast moving traffic and the bugger cut out on me. The EPC light came on.

EPC - Engine POwer Control.

Generally, the car will need STAR analysis by MB or a good Independant.

However, if you can smell diesel in the engine bay, it could be as simple as a broken seal on an injector or a seal on the fuel rail.

Mine went under hard acceleration (I also have a remap to 210BHP) - I suspect a fuel injector seal or maybe a pressure sensor fault in my fuel system or even a dodgy filter or pressure loss in the inlet manifold - all easily fixed and diagnosed.

Could be the crank sensor if it fails to start - again, very cheap and easily fixable.

Get it on STAR and get a good indie to have a look.

i think i have FIXED my problem..... it was the bunch of keys my wifey has on the car key. as she drove over bumps the key turned off the engine...

Glad it's sorted without expense.

I feel your pain. Mrs D has thousands of keys and even more keyrings!! Not such an issue for a lady with a bag, but quite literally a pain for bloke with a pocket!!

Doh! I had the same issue with my spare key - Start error - on the dash.

After speaking to my wife, it turned out that she had broken the spare key and the little transponder had fallen out. After a bit of fiddling and buying a new case from ebay - all sorted.

Quick to resync the keys back to the car too.

Glad it is sorted for you.
