ML320 or ML270 for a newbie

I think a lot of them are clocked, they are so easy to do, or just neglected.

The leather is awful, really hard and shiny, the trim looks tatty, and gernerally just neglected.

I turned down an nice 53 plate 320 with 110k miles on it, it was deep blue with grey leather and was mint, it was £3900. It was teh first one I had seen and thought, foolishly, that I might find a diesel for similar money or a little more but just as mint.
After seeing two more realised I should have grabbed it.
Full MB history as well.

Ho hum, lesson learnt.

I would imagine that most ML's up to 100K will have service history and past MOT's. It is amazing how many are being offered without history. As you say, probably clocked.

My mother had a 2001 ML270 from new till 2008. She covered 130k in it and it never put a foot wrong. Regular servicing kept it in tip top.
It had 18" AMG wheels and ate through the tyres and brakes like no other car she had.
Once she changed to an e-class i kept the car for a few months before selling it.
Seats are awful and lot of things are plasticky, but it is a tough car overall.
She will always regard it as the best car she's ever owned...only due to the reliability.

If a clocked ML is plugged in on STAR will it show up as being clocked? Or do you have to enter many sub-folders?

That's it, got one over the weekend. ML270 2005 75k miles. Seems like it has been looked after with full history and drives lovely. Fingers crossed this will prove to be a good motor.

Can anyone tell me how the parking sensors work though? Do I have to turn them on and how do you know when they are active.

Ta

Mike

Congratulation. That's a fine engine in that beast. Hope it servers you well.

Sorry cant help on the parking sensors.

Don't turn them on, they should just work.

You will know when they are working as they light up and you will hear the beeps.

Do I have to turn them on? They don't seem to be doing anything. Unless I just didn't get near enough. I will try again when I get home.

The seller told me that he has had an intermittent fault with them. Now and then they go into a continuous tone when they activate. MB cant find the fault but it sounds like a dodgy connection or bad sensor to me. If I can recreate the fault I will start a new thread.

Thanks for your help everyone, I am very pleased with my new/old MB. :-)

Usually if there is a bad sensor they give a long bleep and then start working.

If the control module is gone then they usually do nothing or a long bleep and then turn off.

You can usually feel the dodgy sensor vibrate, get someone to stick it in reverse and put your finger on each one.

+1 to the above.

Congratulations, any pictures?

Why not put the car on Star at one of the indies mentioned on here?

How do I put the car on Star? What is Star? And are there any dealers with Star near to Newbury, Berkshire

Thanks

Mercedes Diagnostic Equipment. It should pint point the parking sensor fault and any other faults.

I am sure there are reputable indies in that area.

Is Reading too far?

Reading would be good. Obviously I don't really want to go to a main stealer and get a huge bill for plugging it in to a computer.

Thanks for the info, I will get in touch with them.
