Hi
Recently purchased one of the last ml models fitted with the Amg sport pack including 21" wheels,
The same day I collected the car my brother in law notices a bulge on the passenger side front tyre on the evening, this must of been caused by a pot hole or similar, I hadn't glanced a kerb etc as I had drive only 20/30miles and would remember,
The replacement cost me £220, have I just been unlucky or are these tyres (continentals) really that weak, it's a 4x4 for gods sake!
The car I px was a land cruiser and had never given me any problems,
I've driven Approx 600miles now very cautiously, I'm back to work next week and will be on and off construction sites daily, I now have no confidence in the car and really regret my purchase, one of the reasons I choose this was the 3.5ton towing capacity, now I scared to even drive up a kerb!
I'm running 36psi all round now, can anyone recommend another brand of tyre more suited to my usage a bit stronger, or have I brought the wrong car,
I would appreciate any feedback from owners of the same car with these wheels/tyres
Thanks

Am I reading this right? You are suggesting that you've 'brought' a dud motor because of a bulge in the side-wall on one of its tyres?

Many thanks for spell checking, predictive text on the iPhone!

Have you had any experience of running the ml with these low profiles?

Obviously I haven't bought a dud motor but didn't expect a 4x4 vehicle to damage a tyre when driving a few miles on a city road, I have owned disco 3/4,range sports, Dodge Ram on 22" wheels, various double cabs and 2 land cruisers and never buldged a tyre on a normal road,
I'm simply asking for anyone else's experiences or a better tyre choice than factory for this wheel?

I've had 22" alloys on a D3 and three RR Sports plus an ML420 and I would recommend the Toyo Proxes that were fitted to the LR's, they were fantastic all round and even after 20k miles they still had an average of over 5mm left.

You might have just been unlucky with the Continental, it might have even been there before you bought it but you may not have noticed.

21" tyres will have the 295/35/21 and that is low profile so kerbs are no go.
Swap the rims for 19" and that will sort that problem.
I have seen the 21" alloys with cracked rims from bouncing up kerbs.
If you are looking to sell them let me know.

Will look at the Toyo, they are 265 40 21, after a few google searches the choice looks limited!

Thats what's on mine, its narrow but has more side wall.
I have a conti sport in great shape that size if your looking for one.

I too had the 21" wheels on my ML and they tyres were fine, so maybe you just have a dud tyre. I have since changed to 22" wheels and still it rides fine with the air suspension.

If you are looking to sell them let me know.

I have a set of 21" wheels recently removed from my ML, refurbed in gun metal grey (reason for refurb was didn't like the diamond cut). PM me if you are interested.
