Right, getting really close now to buying an ML. Having looked up the fuel consumption figures for both - it seems very little difference between V6 (20mpg average) and V8 (19.6mpg average).....ehh?

If this is the case the ML500 is MINE  ...or do others know different?

I'd take the book figures with a pinch of salt and speak to owners instead!

My ML320 did between 20/22 around town and up to 29mpg on a run. I was very impressed with it.

The one big drawback with any W163 ML is the prodigious rate at which it eats brake pads and disks. Other than that they are, in my opinion, well built, solid, dependable vehicles. The facelifted ones that is.

If you are considering an ML500 then it will be facelifted.

The trick to getting a good mpg from any car, and I have to say that I always seem to be able to do it, is to ease off the throttle. Especially when approaching junctions. Look a long way ahead and judge what is happening. If the traffic is slowing, then take your foot off the throttle. Let the engine do the braking as it wont use fuel whilst it does this and use the brakes gentley and only when needed to stop or dramatically reduce speed.

If you get an ML500 and drive it sensibly then it will return a good MPG for its size and give you years of trouble free motoring.

Good luck with your purchase.

Looks like I DO have a heavy right foot!

Not sure I'd be too concerned about fuel consumtion in an ML 500 or any car with a large engine for that matter - I'd just accept it would be poor and then get on with enjoying the performance.

I get around 17 mpg on petrol and 14.5 mpg on LPG in my 2002 ML500. I do around 11K a year so bought the 500 instead of the 270 and had it converted for 2K. It has worked out cheaper than buying a 270 with same age and milage. I think it was the right thing to do. I love the sound when it gets a move.

Cool, finally found someone who owns an ML500! I'm a sucker for the sound of the V8... so prepared to shell out on the fuel. I'll only do about 4k miles a year, (apart from the first few months when I'll be going living in it).

Looking to buy in the next couple of months  :bannana: SO excited!!

Have you got any pics of your ML?

Thanks

Hello

Gucci, I went for a 350 as I reckon this will do 20mpg? maybe 25 on a run so I get a bit of performance without too poor mpg. The 500 will look pretty much like this (mine), mines an inspiration model so has some nice extras..but then its not a V8...

Driven in the same way, you'd expect the figures to be very close (as above). Problem is, you would use the additional power of the V8.

Very nice, thanks for posting those pics. LOVE the interior especially with the stitching on the leather! The V6 sounded nice too when I started it up. Yet to try the V8 yet.

Gucci,

I drove a friends ML500 a few years back and wow...it almost lifts off the ground when you press the go pedal.. and wooosh..

don't know what an ML55 would be like or the new ML63....

but then either of them I guess would need a petrol tanker following.

Good luck in your search
